The manoeuvrability of the Avro Vulcan was excellent, but it also looked like it could be pushed much further toward 'fighter' status. After careful study, it was determined that a canard configuration would allow for even faster movement in the pitch axis, allowing for a faster turnaround after a Blue Steel delivery. A B.2 was modified with a 12'5" fuselage extension, and canards fitted below the flight deck area. Tests showed impressive performance, and 25 new aircraft were ordered. The modification was considered enough to confer a new name, and the Avro Vandal was born, with a two syllable name honouring it's predecessor.

The Kit

CyberHobby 1/200th scale offering. Not a bad kit, but the gaps are a little large. Cockpit detail is unecessary in this scale, but they include a sparse one anyway. There is a crew ladder and ground vehicle as options, and provision for a wheels up build. Recommended for a quick build, so long as you don't try to 'Viggenise' it!

A small change really makes a big impression!

I'm not sure that a detailed cockpit for the Vulcan is a necessity, even in 1/72 scale.

Thank you, gentlemen. If I could find another, I have a mind to bringing the nose back, the tail section forward, and making a flying wing out of it.

Has crossed my mind couple times that could build 'flying wing' version of Vulcan.
