Title: '46 German E25 - 1/35

Pulled a few kits out, put most back.
Then went to this, the Trumpeter E25

.. 2 hours later.
Pretty simple build, all out of the box so far. You get the option of roof for either the small turret or just hatches. As if the just hatches option was ever going to happen ;)

Currently on the tracks, you get the option of rubber bands or individual links.. Yes.. I went the indi links, but they almost got tossed in the box when I saw that each link had two knock out pin blemishes, that need attention. But, I persevered as there were only 72 links a side. So work continues

Well it started out going completely out of the box... then I had a yeah,nahh moment and off we headed down the whiffing the whiff path

Ditch the gun, 3d print the basis of a new mantlet and do a roof mounted Range Finder setup. Now heading off to be an Artillery Observation platform, like a retro version of the AO vehicle based on the Jaguar Anti Tank Missile platform.
Being rather small and perhaps nippy it would maybe make a fine E Series Artillery Observation vehicle.

The mantlet will probably have some scissor Binoculars in a rotating mount, I you have space, may as well use it. Plus it will get a workover to get rid of the print marks.

Is that cover in PLA or ABS? If ABS, you can smooth it (carefully) with Acetone. You could also leave it as a forward radar to track rounds or something.

PLA.. just doing this sort of thing for cast texture. Never had much luck with the Acetone fume smoothing, it either blobbed or did nothing of any consequence to smooth it off.

The good thing about progress photos is you can see what might not work. Looking at the photos, front mount location for the rangefinder does not work efficiently.
So, after I took all the temp placements off to work on the mantlet/casement and work around options for the range finder, I came to the conclusion around maybe working up a solution using the turret /turret location.

Or ditch the lot and just go back to out of the box.

Some reworking/redesign around bits that did not work during the experimental phase.
Moved the range finder to replace the MG in the turret because :-
a. fire from the MG would have hit it
b. a tad higher and more flexible.
c. If you really want to, you could also say that it could be extended upward by maybe half a metre or so.
Replaced the MG with a Hetzer type Remote MG. And yes.. the Rangefinder LOS does clear the MG Mount ;)

Overhead view, the boxes on the back of the turret are counter weights. The remote MG also has more ammo via a transverse ammo box below the gun. Normally these would
tend to use the 50 round circular magazines. Brass grilles are only tacked on at the moment until I finish faffing about. Plus the wandering vent has yet another home.

its interesting seeing 3d parts appear more and more often in a more regular way. Its still "exotic" in my mind but I listened to some modeling podcasts and they speak about it as casually as airbrushing.

Good change in lighting - I think I prefer the "faded" bottom pic - with the purple-brown (WW1 aircraft) colour :smiley:
