Title: Fleet Week 2024
Post by: Frank3k on May 28, 2024, 01:01:09 PM
This took place today in San Pedro, Los Angeles, next to the USS Iowa. There were vehicles from the US Navy, Marines, Army and  Space Force (space debris).
My wife was working the Space Force tent (which got quite a few visitors - there were still people dropping by when I was helping tear down the tent). It was extremely crowded, but it was a sunny and cool day, so I got some pictures (mostly reference pictures - tire wear, scratches on the paint, etc.) when I could get a view past the heads and asses. I didn't go on board the USS Iowa, in part because it was a 4 hour wait.

The Iowa is very, very big:

MRZR D4 Ultra-light Tactical All-terrain Vehicle. Magic Factory did a good job on their kit. I remember all of the small parts:

Must be a British made M1 - note the oil pans:

The Marines were letting people play with stingers and M4A1 carbines (I didn't get any pics of those)

The Army had some drones:

The official bird of Los Angeles was showing off its plumage. Noisy little bastards:

Interesting scheme on the Abrams.  Haven't seen a US one like that before.

Nice photos even with all the heads and asses. The CROWS on the M1A2 SEP V3 is the CROWS LP 9low profile).

The camo scheme on the M1A2 SEP V3 is for OPFOR training. Weird they are using the new SEP V3 versions for OPFPOR already.

Interesting day! And yes the Iowa class ships are very big! I’ve been on the Missouri three times and it’s always amazing. Except as one sailor pointed out, the ship suddenly feels much smaller the minute you lose sight of land.

The USS Carl Vinson was in port earlier in the week. People online were complaining that the Navy did such a poor job managing the tours, because they had to wait hours to tour either ship. The Navy just shows up and brings their toys - and with over 25,000 people a day I can see why it would take hours to tour.

People complain at Yellowstone NP that the bison should be better trained to be closer to the road so they can see them. The only thing worse than stupid people are loud mouth stupid people.
