On What If modellers some years ago, there was a Spat-My-Ride GB in honour of you-know-who. Someone then suggested an Unspat-My-Ride GB as a reposte to it...  ;D.

I had the idea of taking a Lizzie and unspatting it by using a P-40. The P-40's engine would go on the Lizzie, as well as enough of its centre-wing section to include the retractable undercarriage. Two Lizzie drop tanks would then go on the ends of the stub wings. For some reason I can only see it in high-speed silver with prototype P markings.... ???

Another idea? Okay then, how about a Lizzie with two fuselage-mounted engines in the style of the Dornier Skyservant? Since I have a Do-28 with the idea of nicking it's engines for an updated Anson, the latter's period radials would be perfect for the "Twin Lizzie".

A Grumman Wildcat lower fuselage grafted in with the wheels retracting just forward of the wing braces?

Wasn't there a study for a varaint with a Delange multi-wing set-up and a large power turret in the back?

My second thought would be the main gear retracting into stub wings with the wing struts tied to the outer ends of the stub wings, much as proposed for the Cessna 185RG.

Wikipedia identifies that version/variant of the Westland Lysander as the P.12 Lysander Delanne (later renamed Westland Wendover)

As was done on the Heston Phoenix and Kreider-Reisner XC-31.

Just came back from an LHS which mostly does trains, where I picked up a second hand Airfix Engine Shed model to find bits of a half-finished Lysander (and a rusty razor blade  :o) in it. I was severely tempted to buy it, build the world's first STOL engine shed, and claim it was "straight out of the box".... ;D

the Heston aircraft is about the right size but the XC-31 comes very close to what the AD folk at Cessna proposed.  I could see that being done with a Lysander.

I do like the idea of a Lysander with a Phoenix type undercarriage, a logical development indeed.

How about a civilianised Canadian bush-plane version with either floats or the spatted wheels replaced by a pair of those oversized "bush wheels" (yes, I'm still thinking about those Piper Cubs... :-*)

You could extend the u/c strut to get the axle at the right height for the "naked" wheels and that would give you a wider track for landing on rough surfaces. Also maybe give it an American engine.

how about a retractable fuselage mounted cannon that could be swung/aimed by the observer through say 15-20deg port and starboard and down?
