to start with, what about a high altitude, stretched wing/fuselage redone bird?

She'd be beautifully clothed in Raspberry Ripple.

I've thought of one as a sort of tactical, short range reconnaissance aircraft of the USMC Korea.    Why?  Who knows?   ;)

I really like the He-162 II. Have you made a sideview? Is the central pod short like the P-38's or long like the OV-10's?

I've been next to a real He-162 (at the Planes of Fame museum in Chino Calif.) and that is one tiny, cramped cockpit!

re: reply #3:

Knowing that the He-162 Salamander "people's fighter" would be hard to fly, Heinkel made a "trainer" with substantial He-162 components. Turns out "trainer" is BETTER and more reliable than He-162! Stretched, twin-boomed, and turbo-propped. "Nazi Enklave of Croatien" unit in "the Redoubt".
Modelwise: Two Lindberg He-162s for fuselage, tail, and outer wings, a Lindberg Ar-234 jet engine, 2 Zero props (note old Revell Zero had opposite-spinning prop!), Heller Saab J-21 inner wings and booms.

"Alpine Newt" camouflage.

The Soviets reverse engineer it, solve the reliability problems of the engine (WHAT??!?....the Soviets improve something?  Are you kidding me!?  Why yes I am.  This is the Whiffverse.), and sell several dozen to wealthy sparring Bedouins and African Tribesmen in the 50's and 60's.

I have one He-162 set aside to be US Marines P-76A Wasp. Point airfield defence fighter.

There a few more He-162s on Richard's Blog's here. Scroll down about 4/5ths of the way.

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

How about the He-162 as the basis for a cruise missile or anti-shipping missile?  Replace the cockpit with warhead.  Maybe even put shaped charge in nose?

How about two engines located under the wing roots and a V-tail?

Good concept. :)   Design lends itself to that with its top mounted engine.

"How about two engines located under the wing roots and a V-tail?"  -  Weaver
There is one (a few?) He-162 kit that has a V-tail.
Building 1/32 as 1/72 can be a three engine jet bomber with hints of B-51.  :)

Thatz two more on my oh so long wanna build list.  :-\

There is always the Japanese way... for some reason given the 162's odds of successful return after a mission I'd see them using it much like the MXY7, but ground-launched rather than air-drop, ie pack the nose full of as much boomstuff as would fit.

While bouncing/browsing around on Ebay, Sprue Brothers, Squadron, etc,,, end up looking at He 162 kits.
Random whiff comes to mind.  Because of SEA in 1960s there is a competition in parallel with the A-37.  Emphasizing low cost, company X dusts off He 162 blueprints.  Builds near replica in aluminum, installs subsystems of the time and installs same J85-GE-17A used in A-37.  With crew of one and only one engine and similar performance, it goes into production for SEA service and as low cost counter insurgency export jet.  South American allies are pleased with its faster transit to a target area compared with the T-28 and other prop aircraft.  In US service the (A-162?) becomes low part of high/low mix of A-37B and A-162 like would later done with F-15 and F-16.
While He 162 has 2 x 20mm the A-162 could use same mini-gun as A-37B leaving room for sufficient ammo.  Two hard points under each wing?
Thatz enough He 162 whiffing for one posting.

Looking good in blue and USMC markings.
In styrene - tweak with jet pod and various things like a V-tail.
Also can be private sport jet.
