Now you are taking the fun out of this :(

I suppose in all three cases it would be a situation where conflict is about to happen and this would be the moment before the balloon goes up as the shit just got  real and the shit is now hitting the fan as all hell breaks loose and hostilities have ensued.

It could be a conventional conflict, a nuclear conflict, alien invasion, or a natural disaster.  Pick your venue and work towards achieving that as a physical model, digital model/profile, or a story.

I thought I could make it easy by finding an on-line definition for each of these proposals but the search results were not fit to share in mixed company :)  What ever you do, do not use the Urban Dictionary to find a definition.   :-X

Another random GB idea:  the racing GB.  It could be Reno style racers: race cars; racing tanks; racing submarines; racing B-36s or even racing airships...

Dragsters typically do a "burn in" to soften up the tires before they speed down the track.

I'm imagining that "burn in" being done with metal tracks and the picture isn't pretty.

Idea:

The STRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEETCH GB.

We've all seen stretch limos and stretch Humvees, and there is, of course, the notorious Tank Limo, but come on, we can whiff up something madder than that, right?  ;)

So the idea is this: take any vehicle (floating, flying or rolling) and turn it into a means of luxury transport for people who's taste is inversely proportional to their bank balance, the only stipulation being that this modification MUST include a significant increase in the vehicle's length.

Personally, my first thought is that these arn't nearly long enough  >:D,  but I suspect I can't afford the models......

I think the Fear and trepidation GB is one that needs to be done.  We are scared of our kits!! and of all the modelers out there What Ifers should not be afraid to embrace some risk and go out on a limb. It may not work the way you hoped ... So what? No one will be able to "make it work somehow" better than whiffers!!

I didn't bring any of my WWII or prop kits after I moved to TX, so I can't do the bent wings GB I suggested!! LOL  However I was thinking we could add to it, Make it a "weird wings" GB. Biplanes (They go under weird because they generally peaked a long time ago, and Biplanes are still around in limited numbers, but they are rare-Thats why I say Weird- I love biplanes and they are weird in a good way) also triplanes or quadplanes. Plus it would give us a chance to do "slowy jets" as was previous suggested. Also include swing wings, Forward swept wings, and switchblade wings, and you have yourself some awesome whiff fodder.

The B-25 Mitchell also had a slight bent to the wings between the engines and the fuselage on certain versions.

Fairey Gannet had bent wings: anhedral on the inboard panels.

taiidantomcat: as I understand it, the idea is to straighten a cranked wing or crank a straight one, so you could always flatten a Phantom's wings, or put a crank into some other jet's. How about a Skyhawk with upturned outer wings, or an A-7 with downturned ones?

The B-25 Mitchell also had a slight bent to the wings between the engines and the fuselage on certain versions.
Technically all Mitchell's except for the prototype have wings that are 'bent' outboard of the engine nacelles.
The design originally had a wing with a constant dihedral from the fuselage, flight testing revealed stability
problems that were addressed by flattening the outer wing panels.

By the way, there was no real B-25 prototype (XB-25/YB-25, etc).  They just started at B-25.  That's a bit of trivia most people don't know about the way US designations used to work.  They didn't start at -A; they started at sans suffix.  The B-25A was actually the 2nd model built or, if you'd rather, the first variant (which is really what the letters noted).  For all practical purposes, the first production models are generally -A models, since they're a variant of the XB-## prototype or YP-## pre-production aircraft.  This was eventually changed for a number of reasons, not least of which being that 'B-25' in this instance can refer to the specific model that were those initial 24 aircraft were constructed as or it can refer to the whole family.  It's ambiguous, but it's used correctly in either case.

Also, there wasn't anything inherently wrong with the first B-25s as aircraft.  As bombers, however, they did suffer from a lack of stability.  Since they also lacked armor and self-sealing fuel tanks, they were unsuitable as combat aircraft.  Instead, they were used as training aircraft.  I've read that the first Soviet pilots trained on the B-25 in the US were trained on the initial production models with full-span dihedral, no armor, etc.  They had been initially trained as fighter pilots in the VVS and--to their immense delight--those initial B-25s handled quite like large fighters.  There were a lot of issues with Soviet pilots tossing the planes around the sky in ways no one ever intended.  They'd land with rivets in the tail missing and tail gunners with cracked ribs.  In one case, US fighter pilots were teaching them evasion techniques as they flew P-43s against them in mock combat.  The Soviet fighter pilots in B-25s were nonplussed and quickly got on the tails of their would-be pursuers, even forcing a P-43 into the ground in low level air-to-air combat!

That should give you some idea of just how "hot" of an airplane those initial B-25s were!

I should probably repost this in the B-25 thread since that's mostly what it's about.

Cheers,

Logan

Probably one of the most obvious (and dare I say easiest) whiff GB ideas:  The Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda GB.  In other words, this would be a GB where you take a standard selection decision and instead look at what the alternatives were.  For instance, instead of RAAF F/A-18s you have RAAF F-16s or F-15s or Mirage 2000s or...

This could be done for aircraft, land platforms, ships or even civilian systems (e.g. Police cars).

Exactly!

If this one does go ahead, there would obviously be a need to do some research into what the alternatives were, though I am sure I and others here could help out there.
