Title: Mig-21 OK 'Orlinyy Kogot' ' - FINISHED
Post by: robunos on May 15, 2020, 04:55:06 AM

"In 1975, with work on what would become the MiG-29 just beginning, and following the stunning displays by the Northrop 'Eagle Claw' at that year's Paris Air Show, the designers at the MiG OKB decided to investigate if the 'Eagle Claw' concept would be useful to the upcoming project. A 'quick and dirty' test configuration was designed, on the basis of an available MiG-21 airframe, and quickly constructed. The aircraft was designated Mig-21 OK, the 'OK' standing for 'Orlinyy Kogot' ', which surprisingly, meant 'Eagle Claw' !
The brief test programme showed definite advantages to this configuration, but not to extent of the Northrop aircraft (in truth, the Soviets did not have access to the 'secret sauce' of the Northrop aircraft, that is, the sophisticated avionics), and the Mig-29 as it eventually emerged, was designed around a TsAGI developed aerodynamic concept. Nevertheless, the data gathered from this program was used in the design of the MiG I-44 aircraft, intended to supersede the Sukhoi Su-27 and 35 series."

Okay, this is the follow-up to my Northrop 'Eagle Claw' build. I got the kit off Ebay, It's a 'Plastyk' kit, there's some flash, but otherwise not too bad at all . . .
I must apologise, I got carried away with starting the build, and was a quarter of the way in before I realised I needed to start documenting the build.
The main change is to move the wing backwards on the fuselage. Here's where the wing should go,

and here's where I want to put it.

And here it is dry-fitted after the required modifications have been made.

I've already done the other side, and when the nose cone has been painted and added, I can join the fuselage halves.
That's All For Now, stay tuned . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Nice one!

I think ysi-maniac had a profile for something quite similar with a MiG-21 fuslage and a Kfir's wings and canards. Has been in the to-do folder for some time.

Looks legit as one off Mig-21 test jet.  Shown with rightly written backstory could pass as RW with many viewers.

Thanks, Gents . . .   :))    :-[
I will admit that it's not the most polished model I've ever made, but sometimes it's a case of 'The Force is Strong', so I just go with it . . .
Regarding backstories, I do try when ever possible to make them plausible . . .

cheers,
Robin.
