This is intended for aircraft equipped with engines with more than 20 cylinders each

Napier Sabre http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napier_Sabre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napier_Sabre)
Allison 3420 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allison_V-3420 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allison_V-3420)
Wasp Major http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pratt_%26_Whitney_R-4360_Wasp_Major (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pratt_%26_Whitney_R-4360_Wasp_Major)
Tornado http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright_R-2160_Tornado (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright_R-2160_Tornado)

I love how that Corsair looks like that!

Hpw about a Skyraider with a W3420?  The Allison engine was comparable in power to Wright's R3350 and might well have replaced it, converting the B-29 to the B-39, if problems with the R3350 had continued.  By that time Allison had the W3420 fully debugged and ready to go.

The ultimate target of these designs was not to equip Tempest with Allison V-1710, which would be a step backward, but to a slicker engine, something a little narrower but longer.

I first considered Griffon, but it is too narrow IMO for this design. Now I am considering Wright Tornado; this is equally wide and 35 cm longer (5 mm in 1/72).

Would it need contra rotating props? IMO, no.

Please your comments.

But contra props improve everything... ;)
