Me262 & cicada insect Re: hybrid aircraft/animals
« Reply #125 on: February 26, 2015, 04:09:32 PM »
thanks Tophe! I still have an ant and a big hirned bug in the insect stash : we'll see what they will cross with ...

meanwhile, and closer indeed to the aircraft topic ;-),
I think I haven't yet introduced to you this Me262 (1/144) with wings of a cicada :

I put it in a frame, to look like what insect collectors do, and hang it on my wall :

Delicious... :-*
So, obviously Mr Messerschmitt was a quiet insect collector, in a 1945 world of piece and harmony. I want to live on this planet, what is the price of the ticket for going there? What? It is free?? Just registering at Beyond the Sprues? So we are (now! here!) in Heaven, this is the proof: ;)

I really enjoy your work, eric but with that lovely cicada winged 262, you've taken this to the level of fine art!

Well done!

thanks for your appreciation, it contributes to keeping me inspired  ;)

I'll try to have more insects hybrids soon, I posted a few other aircraft insects in the past

BAE Trident and wine bottle Re: hybrid aircraft/animals and others

this bottle of "vin de paille" from Jura got wings (and engines) from a BAE Trident (1/100) :
the sizes were fitting qui well  ;)

and as an aside,I also tried this crossing between a Coke bottle and a 1/32 Piper Cub, with wheel from elsewhere ... :

Great pictures of these completely unknown weird airplanes! :-* :-*
What are their mysterious noses for? Missiles or top secret devices?

Considering the same BAE Trident (1/100) as before:

I had a remaining fuselage, which has a diameter nearly perfectly fitting that of the Heller 1/125 Ariane 5 :

HENCE this hybrid, evoking space travel for the masses :

(and no i still have the back half of the fuselage left ... )

Dear ericr, you seem 50 years ahead of your time...
I especially like a detail: the windows are closed, not to explode the fuselage like on the first De Havilland Comets 1 reaching new altitudes. This seems safe a travel: let me buy 3 tickets for my family (as soon as I win the loto)  ;)

WOW!  Literally fantastic creations!  And the craftsmanship is great too.  I would take them to an art gallery and see if they could be shown.  Sales are also a possibility.

thanks for the encouragement! putting things in a frame makes an effect indeed  ;) I tried that for another experiment with the notion of spiral (which this DC10 is beginning to draw) :

I sometimes try to appraoch the art world, but it is not always much into aircraft  ;)

talking about spats ...

I had parts left from an Ar196 (the floats were used elsewhere), and a nice small can of Coke, and the fit looked nice, scalewise at least ; and I also had these wheels in spats, most probably from a Ar 95 (wheeled version), so here it goes :

You are right, this may be a great discovery for the future without petroleum anymore: bubble soda huge tank, shake than direct the explosion rearward, and that's a tremendous push forward... ;) (ericr deserves the Nobel Prize 2015 according to me, seriously).

excellent observation, you unveiled the trick!  ;D ;D ;D

(but actually even I fell into my trick : I hadn't thought of it  ??? )

the livery is whiff, though, right?   ;)

some time ago I made an attempt at floatplanizing the Stipa :

but I tried another configuration with a Noorduyn Norseman, where it would be more about spraying the land :
