Esci 1/72 Fokker D.VII based on '50s Aurora box-art.

When I was a kid in the '50s, the Aurora 1/48 "Burning Green Fokker" was the only D.VII available on the market. This is my version of that classic kit with my own twist on it to make it unique. I added the cool looking striped wing with Tamiya 6mm tape. The kit is OOB except I replaced the crappy kit propeller and wheels with replacements from the spares-box. The markings are leftover scraps from the decal bin. The paint is hand-brushed Xtracolor USN Willow Green over a base of rattle-can Armory White Figure Primer(great stuff). I am planning on building more WW1 models based on '50s classic Aurora box-art. I like this little fellow a lot. He looks great next to WW1 models that represent real aircraft.

The ESCI Fokker looks just like the box art! It brings back memories.

When I was a kid in the mid-late 60s, I could buy an Aurora WWI model with my allowance, and I'd have enough left over for other goodies, or to save up for the more expensive models, like the Monogram UDT boat or the Airfix Short Sunderland.

The Fokker D.VII kit tested my abilities as as a 7 year old; I just could not get the top wing to stay on. It was the most frustrating of their WWI models.

Biplanes and tube glue. With that combination the issue is in doubt every time until the glue finally sets.

Especially when you use so much tube glue that the struts start to melt...

I bought a 1956 issue Aurora Albatross D-3 a few years ago. The parts are mostly off the sprues and the box has some wear on it, so it's worthless to most collectors. I paid $15 for it. The plastic is so shiny... and so brittle. I plan on building it the way I would have built it as a kid, minus the tube glue. The plastic even has an outline for the decals (and roughened plastic).

I just looked through my kit spreadsheet; I have the Aurora Fokker D-VII and I had the Eindekker (which I sold).
