1/72 Kasier Aircraft Industries F3K-1 Wasp
« on: November 03, 2014, 02:42:31 AM »
This is a WIP on a family of licensed built Hawker Typhoons by Kaiser Aircraft for the US Marine Corp.

The back story is based on 1942 schism between the US Navy and the USMC on air assets and that USN did not want the USMC having its own aircraft.

I am presenting the history in reverse order with the latest F3K-1 version being built first. There will be a FK-1 and F2K-1. The primary role was ground attack.  The Sea Fury prop and tail are from a PM Sea Fury. Pylons are from a Revell P-47M. The tail fits very nicely. I just did not do a clean cut.

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Here is the KAI F3K-1 Wasp in Portuguese Navy Colours.  The F3Ks were declared obsolete in 1947 so they were sent back to the factory, refurbished and sold to Allied nations.

Paint is from a Tamiya Spray bomb. Decals from a Capena Exotic Spitfires sheet and an Academy F6F. They silvered on me so I still need to fix that.

Apologies for the poor picture quality. My photo studio got covered with 15 CM of snow over the last 2 days.

I couldn't agree more! That sure finished up a stunner and the Portuguese scheme is most eye-catching!

Yet another winner, Carl!

Oooooh, that is clever and nice! That new tail would turn heads and cause second glances aplenty if it was in RAF camo. I'm liking the droptank pylons and five-blade prop, too.
