The Peel Trident 1965 looks like it was inspired by Hanna-Barbera Productions "The Jetson's" animated comics from way back then. 
All that is missing is that signature Jetson's flying car sound.

Is it just me or does the 'dome' on the Peel Trident look like a bomb-aimer's bubble taken from a Lancaster?

Probably.  Early sixties, a lot of military surplus available at prices that would have been enticing for quick purchase.
