Good to see some Jerkins in evidence. Much overlooked piece of uniform. I had one which I'd inherited from my father. I remember old Bluey, who'd served in Korea and was a plant operator for 3 Field Squadron still had his and wore it quite a lot. Warm, and of course, hard wearing. :)

Seems like Gekko Models has changed their name slightly to Gecko Models.
New website link: http://www.gecko-models.com/Public/home/test/models/ (http://www.gecko-models.com/Public/home/test/models/)
Armorama had a news item for several new figure sets and vehicles from this company:
WWII: https://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=36128 (https://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=36128)
Modern: https://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=36123 (https://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=36123)
This particular item caught my eye. I may have to add a couple to the secure storage/kit archive.

Hmm, well looking at the box tops in the previous posts from a couple of years ago, it would seem to be that was how they always spelt the company name LJ ---
-
I like that - definite possibilities

Here's the box art with out the Scalemates overlay:

And another version coming:

-
Well, looks like I'm getting at least one of each version.
-
Forgive my ignorance but are these cruiser tanks a between the wars design? Never seen them before. Or whiff in a box?

The A9 versions? They were designed in the mid 1930s and in service 1938–1941. Only 125 were produced though. Here's one knocked out in France:

Some good news there, the MWD Bedford listed is a sure stash addition.

Didn't the Aus Army have a handful of these at some stage? I seem to remember photo's/footage of them assisting with flood relief or similar. ???
If so, I may get one ... MAY! ;)

Sure I did, I can remember seeing them during my days in the 80's
Link indicates that they were around still in 2015, almost last hurrah of the Tobruk.

I have a feeling they still have some and there was one sitting in a yard opposite the Osborne Shipyard where the Hobarts were built.

HobbyFan offered this Mark LARC as a full resin kit. So it will be interesting to see an in-depth comparison on the two kits.
-
The LARC was a standard issue item with the Terminal units in the Australian Army. They used to use them down south in the Antarctic runs as well as during the disaster relief and ocassionally as proper military vehicles between ship and shore. They superseded the DUKWs in the mid-1960s.

OK, so what exactly does all that bar grating do ?
-
OK, so what exactly does all that bar grating do ?
The intention or purpose of the bar grating/screen is to try and defeat HEAT rounds and ATGMs (Cone-Shaped Charge) before they come in to contact with the vehicle by causing the warheads to detonate upon contact with the screen.
-
Here's what it does to an RPG round:

Thanks Jeff, Frank, that really explains it well ----

Detonates standoff shaped charge warheads at a sufficient distance that the explosive jet hopefully cant penetrate the base armour and the crew compartment.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slat_armor
-
There's also the possibility that it may cause a kinetic projectile to lose stability & not (fully) penetrate the base armour.

Nah mate, its designed to mess with the ignition of the charge. The standoff range could actually improve the effect of the shaped charge by giving it enough distance to form properly.

Gecko Models will be releasing their own 1/35th scale model of the iconic Austin K2/Y Heavy Ambulance in the middle of 2021.
This model is based on original research and has no connection with the forthcoming Airfix K2/Y model. Research and planning for this model started a considerable time before the unexpected announcement by Airfix.
There will be a number of boxings of this kit, all the colour and marking schemes for which were completed and sent to Gecko, coincidentally, just the day before the Airfix announcement. These are:
1 - Famous K2/Ys (includes HRH The Princess Elizabeth figurine)
Option 1 - K2/Y driven by HRH The Princess Elizabeth at the ATS Driver & Maintenance School at Camberley, Surrey, UK in the Spring of 1945
Option 2 – K2/Y in Ice Cold in Alex film markings (2 wheel drive version only - another K2/Y was converted to 4 wheel drive using Austin K9 or CMP drive train components and used in some scenes)
2 - Early K2/Ys
4 Options to include a BEF example, 2 x Western Desert examples (including a very colourful K2/Y) and an example used in Sicily
3 - Late War K2/Ys
4 Options showing those used by the military and civilian services in the North West Europe campaign in 1944/45

It would be interesting to do a version of this with a recoilless rifle or ATGM.

Malkara mount.. monstrous, impractical, but impressive 8)
RCL might work, although after the Carrier build, engineering around loading the thing and still having a clear BBDA would be interesting. Maybe ONTOS like setup.
Who knew Whiff world modelling could be so practical.

'SOC' because no-one else has the 'stones' to think that Combat and Rubber belong in the same descriptor ;D

I hope "Goose" (https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/topgun/images/5/5e/Goose.jpg) up front doesn't puncture the boat or one of his mates with that itchy trigger finger.

Although I am currently a bit Gecko shy after the Daimler Armoured Car experience.... this I am so looking forward to.
Can scratch another Resicast conversion off the list.
Now about that 3.7" Anti Aircraft gun ???
-
Still, nice to see the Ram Kangaroos
-
IIRC the Kangaroos eventually had makeshift ladders added to the sides made out of whatever was handy. Plus most had .30 cal guns instead of a .50 cal as that way they could carry more ammunition on board. It's been a while since I researched the Kangaroos and repurposed Priests.
-
Makes me wonder if Gecko will follow up with a 3.7 inch AA gun.

^ oh my!

Just spotted on Armorama: 1/35 Lambro 550 tricar
(https://armorama.com/upload/media/entries/2023-06/13/4573-entry-0-1686655482.jpg)
and for the logisticians among us: 1/35 Conex boxes
(https://armorama.com/upload/media/entries/2023-06/13/4573-entry-2-1686655483.jpg)

The MILVAN containers are a very nice sight to see in 1/35th scale.
-
Three wheeled vehicle? I'm getting it.

No doubt the same sort of 20+ pieces >:D to complete one suspension unit like the Daimler Armoured Car has (which my build, has now reached the 12 month mark and only finally looking like seeing completion)
I love the current era of never ending great releases, but really, I am after a scale model, not a scale replica down to the last grease nipple as a separate part.

Along with this;
Plus a figure of Gunner/Lance-Bombardier Milligan, Terence Alan
Would make a wonderful diorama set during the events of "Rommel?" "Gunner Who?" and/or Monty: His Part in My Victory.

;D

With a runaway gun? ;)

I looked for years for the ESCi Dodge version that was never made :(
I hope they will do other support vehicles like this. NAFFI/WVS canteen truck ? many bought after the war by removals & delivery companies. Maybe 1/48th versions of the Airfix airfield vehicles?

PAC-V Hovercraft...oooohh

Another addition to the list.

more CAD at Armorama: https://armorama.com/news/gecko-models-sk-5-pacv (https://armorama.com/news/gecko-models-sk-5-pacv)
Some thoughts on added firepower:
a CROWS-J in place of the twin .50s
a couple Harpoon canisters for a littoral anti-ship capability
Hellfire or Brimstone launchers to deal with AAVs in the ship to shore movement
-
Nice - another to add to the list of "taking one for the team and buying the expensive resin kit for" - this time the 1/35 Masterpiece Models PACV. Not to worry - mine is going to be combined with a M60A2 top half to create a hover tank of sorts.
-
Uh-oh! Another addition to the Royal Australian Marines SBS Vietnam Riverine Forces! :o

Seen over on Armorama: US M76 "OTTER"
Going on the wish list next to the PACV.
Also, another boxing of the Lambro 550 trike, this time a 2-in-1 set:
