Following a Boeing concept from when they owned DHC, a Dash 8/V-22 cross.  Got all the "goodies" for this one.

This is something I've been working on (well, that was before my house move 8 years ago  :-X  been in the moving box ever since) .

It will get Grumman E-2 props and be amphibian and be in Canadian Coast Guard colours.

All this great discussion has got me thinking on what the Dash-8 needs?

Any ideas? XM Satellite Radio? Keyless trunk entry? Heated seats? LED turn signals? Dual cup holders? Give up? New engines!!  :)

So here we have the Dash-9.  I am replacing the PW120A/PW121 engine with the General Electric TF34-GE-2 turbofan with 9,275 lbf. Engines are from a S-3.

The maximum takeoff weight of the Dash-8 is 36,300 lb. The maximum takeoff weight of the S-3 is 52,539 lb. Lots of power to spare. The main landing gear will be moved to fuselage sponsons.  And then I'll add all other fiddly bits to make a it MPA or some other long range resource.

Please filter out the the nacelle bits. I'll cut those off when I am ready to build this kit.

Note that I used my patented IAOFTABSAFTTROAMMFTPOACTCPFALTPABOBM.

Needs some wing sweep, otherwise it just looks like a slow jet to Ottowa :)

Interesting ideas but I am keeping the design changes to a minimum. The equivalent analogy would be the S-2 going from piston to turbo engine.

And as long a the Dash-9 is faster than the fishing trawlers or subs it will be chasing all is good.

The GE TF34-GE-2 turbofans are a real natural for this idea. Don't worry about wing sweep, the long thin wings means endurance>

When I read that, an DASH-AN-72 popped into my head

Thanks, another one which I really have to get finished.  The floats come from the XC-47C conversion (their TO weights are close for my purpose) and the main float pylons are wings from a Chipmunk (just cut in half for the front and back ones)

De Havilland brand to fly again after sale by Bombardier

The De Havilland brand will take flight once again, as its parent company announced the re-launch of the Dash 8 aircraft program following its newly minted purchase from Bombardier Inc.

Longview Aviation Capital Corp. unveiled the de Havilland Aircraft of Canada Ltd., its new subsidiary that will operate the turboprop family from the Downsview Plant in Toronto where the de Havilland brand became established in Canada.

The sale also includes the de Havilland trademark and Bombardier's full Dash 8 program, composed of the 100, 200 and 300 series, all turboprop regional jets which seat 40 to 90 passengers.

BC-based Longview's subsidiary Viking Air Ltd. makes turboprop aircraft such as the Twin Otter and the Beaver, workhorses of the Canadian North, as well as holding the rights to all out-of-production de Havilland aircraft.

The Q400 is included. From Viking:

Longview Aviation Capital Corp., parent company to Viking Air Limited, a leading Canadian aircraft manufacturer, today agreed to acquire, through an affiliate, the entire Dash 8 program including the 100, 200 and 300 series and the in-production Q400 program from Bombardier Inc. Also included as part of the transaction are rights to the de Havilland name and trademark in an all-Canadian transaction.

When I was working at YYC, the Viking hanger at the south end, were mostly involved with the Canadair CL-215/415 too. Looks like they've taken on a huge slice of Canadian produced aircraft.

It'll be even better with the pending sale of the CRJ to Mitsubishi.  ;D
