Spitfire racer 'Black Magic II'
« on: August 12, 2016, 11:30:05 PM »
With only a couple of days to go in the extension to this GB I should have time to throw together a quick build. I've had this Matchbox Spitfire in the stash for a couple of decades so I thought I'd build it as a racer to go with my Bf 109K. Markings will be from the Airfix DH88 Comet.

Progress has been rapid so far and after removing the cannon bulges from the upper wings it didn't take long before the basic airframe was together and the prop painted.

After some filling and sanding the upper surfaces have been given a coat of gloss black.

At this rate it should easily be finished by Sunday night.

Thanks for the comments. I have finished the Spitfire just in time for the end of the GB.

With assembly completed it was shiny but not particularly colourful.

It looked a lot better with the decals applied. A couple of coats of Klear and it was done.

A fine brush was used to add the II after the name.

Not the most accurate Spitfire kit but ideal for a what if.

Awesome job Tim. There is nothing wrong with a uni-colour paint scheme.  :)

See you at the races.

Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

<snip>

I couldn't agree more and using those famous colors on a Spitfire was some truly inspired thinking!

Well done!
