I just found out what I want to do with my 1/48 Voisin bomber:

What a pity the GWGB just ended…ah well, will still build it.

Splendid idea!

Wasn't there a Mil Mi-6/26 kitted out as a flying hospital at some point?

there's several pics of a MI-2 Ambo on posted here somewhere ..... (see sample below).

quite a few ..... off the top of my head ....
the obvious - Ju-52, DC-3, C-46, C-124 Globemaster (korean war).

Storch, PiperCub, Auster, Stuka (pods), Dragon Rapide, Cant 506, P-38 (modded drop-tanks), OV-10 Bronco (medevac was part of the design criteria), Transavia Airtruk, Spassatel (2nd "Loon" ekranoplan - 7 flight-crew + 490 medics/patients)

Great collection raafif!

BTW: 'Beech18ambo' is actually an ex-SAAF Lockheed Lodestar of No. 1 Air Ambulance Unit RAAF.

Fast medevac Harrier with two passenger pods similar to the ones that were mocked up?  Perhaps a version of the two-seater that would allow a medic to ride along and monitor the patients?

If anyone fancies the Ju-87 pods (or grafting them onto something else for that matter), Airmodel do vac-form ones for a very reasonable price: http://www.airmodel.de/product_info.php?info=p60_junkers-ju-87-d-3-personal-pods.html

As long as you don't get bounced on the way to the hospital! :icon_surprised:

Could you imagine being in there when the pilot goes into "fighter-pilot" mode with a Zero bearing down on him? :o

I wonder if those P-38 pods were converted from fuel tanks?

Wonder if dropping sick people on the enemy counts as biological warfare?

My embarrassed  :-[ - the photos I showed above are supposedly actually of casualty evacuation pods attached to an F-5, the reconnaissance variant of the P-38 Lightining.  Helps if I read the actual article wouldn't it.

To make amends (and to distract you lot), any discussion of flying ambulances must include reference to the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.  To start with, they used QANTAS assistance:

Didn't the RFDS also use the DeHavilland Drover, designed and built by DeHavilland of Australia?  There's a picture of a TAA one in the civil BV-222 thread.
