I think this is a "standard" Soviet propaganda picture, because I'm sure I've seen a colour one with an Mi-2 handing the "urgent despatches" to the commander of a PT-76. Can't find it onlinr though, which surprises me.

On the Mi-2, do both engines have bifurcated exhausts?  It looks like too exhaust outlets on either side of the fuselage for the pictures.  Or is it just that some had both on one side and some had both on the other side?

Any Mi-2 I've ever seen has had both engines' exhausts split like that.

Looking at some of the other structures in the engine compartment, that bifurcation looks like it was necessary in order to get everything to fit in there.

Gas flows through the compressor at the front (RHS of pic, 7 axial & 1 centrifugal stages) through the two silver "trumpets" to the reverse-flow combustor at the back, then forward through a single-stage compressor turbine and a two-stage power turbine. The reduction gearbox and accessories are therefore in the middle of the engine with the power output shaft being above it. This explains the "hunched back" look of the Mi-2's engine fairing, and also the twin exhausts: the have to pass above and below the "trumpet" on one side or the other.

Markings are atypical for CF aircraft. Many of the markings are not in locations where they would typically go. Methinks they were painted with only a cursory paint plan. :) I'm guessing the CH-178 entered service without all the years of dedicated paper shuffling that normally precedes a new aircraft. LOL!

The GTD-350 reminds me a lot of the Allison Model 250 in basic layout and arrangement; I reckon nature gives similar answers to the same question.

Yep. Production of the Mi-2 was transferred to PZL in Poland, and their first attempt at an updated version was the Kania, which actually had Allison 250s. It didn't sell, unfortunately: western buyers didn't trust it and eastern ones didn't want to pay for spare parts in dollars. Lesson learned, they went on to develop the W-3 Sokol with better Russian engines instead.

I rather like the Mi-2/W-3 series. They tend to get overlooked due to their looks and the shadow of the more impressive Mi-8/17, but they're actually decent, useful machines, roughly comparable to an early Huey, and there are still plenty of them about.
