Fokker D.VII 1940 style ...
« on: July 12, 2012, 12:37:27 AM »
Designed by the Fokker factory after a visit by Commander in Chief of the Luftwaffe, Hermann Goring in 1940, this reengineered Fokker D.VII given the company designation P.203, featured an Argus engine and a widened cockpit to enable its pilot (of slightly wider girth than during his WW1 ace period)

would make for a really interesting model, Goering's D.VII was well known as being in an overall white scheme, it can probably be assumed that a reproduction would be finished in similar, abiet possibly with a swastika on the tail ? The engine could come from any suitable source, Fiesler Storch, etc. ?

cheers, joe

no idea to be honest, iv only been able to find limited information on it, id hazard a guess as it was intended as a one off 'gift' it may have been fabric covered over a wood or light alloy skeleton in keeping with the original specs or maybe even a thin 'aeroply' covering adding a bit more durability ?

cheers, Joe

Well, these are my ideas of a 1940 D VII.  :D

I suspect that Herman would have been faced with insurmountable odds to squeeze his immense body into the tiny confines of that poor little Fokker.  It would certainly be no easy task even with a spatula and a liberal application of schmaltz :)

I would suggest that Goering's Fokker have either slightly more span or greater chord to accommodate the Reichsfuhrer's somewhat greater payload fraction. :)

... and bigger shocks, a 3-blade propeller, wider wheels. :)

It might be fun though to see the poor little beastie with Herman squeezed in and the gear splayed, tires sunk in the mud. LOL!

Zombie bump!

I've just found out about this project and I'm keen to do it. My source http://www.aerofile.info/wordpress/?page_id=962 suggests Fokker would use an Argus AS10 - think Storch and Bf108 - as the powerplant. Luckily I have a Storch to de-nose, and D.VIIs in 1/72 are plentiful and cheap. In fact, I already have one on the way!

I'll copy the white D.VII scheme but with a swastika on the tail...stay tuned.

I'm sticking to my plan of using the just-arrived D.VII for something else, but I think I need to get another to do the Goering Special.

That's superb! I have the Revell kit, I have a donor Storch, and now I have a profile to base it on!  :icon_beer:
