Given this is a what-if site and all...while macross and gundam are both possible futures, you can always branch it more and go with a whole new gun pod design. Draw up your own, think about even some practical problems with tactics you may have seen from the anime and a better weapon to solution them. Maybe a particle cannon versus a projectile type? Something to give you that extra edge.
