the drag on the towers would be too great for it to be a plane ... I believe what you are seeing is actually a tail-sitting rocket-powered helicopter that gets boosted up & then transitions to horizontal flight ... tho the rotors are still rather small for lift & a soft landing ;D

Do27 & notebook-wings (Tophe-inspired !) Re: hybrid aircraft/animals and others
« Reply #351 on: October 17, 2015, 12:59:38 AM »

 do you remeber this ?

sometime ago you had an idea which got into my mind : the Book-Airplane :

and I liked so much that I had to try it out : using an Airfix Ar196, and a Clairefontaine notebook, cut to the shape of the wings :

it could have been featured in a Tophe-inspired group build!   ;D

I thought it worthwhile to continue the exploration with another, high-wing example, using a Do-27 :

next one might be a delta  :)

2cv shuttle and 747 SCA Re: hybrid aircraft/animals and others

and now for something completely different :

I always liked the shape of the 2cv, a bit like that of the Beetle, and thought about equipping it with the wing of a space shuttle ...
I had already tried a 1/43 one with 1/288 boosters, and a 1/16 Beetle with 1/144 Boosters
http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=4100.msg87944#msg87944

and here comes the 1/24 2cv with 1/144 shuttle wings and tail, on top of the 747 SCA :

I especially like how you decided to paint the Citroen red! Blue would've been the natural choice, but that crimson really makes it pop!

Nice stuff!

Yes: I knew this! Your compound-model is not fantasy at all but true life story (as scale model: of course you drive the scale 1 version, bigger)... ;)

yes, and I drive it without the 747, to keep a bit of discretion  ;D

Very colourful I must say, and unique

2) A model doesn't yell at you for spending money on another model

Of course, the 2cv having wheels and wings, you can drive and fly, no need of mother-ship. :)

PZL7 heads for a Cerberus Re: hybrid aircraft/animals and others

you may remember the P38 interpretation as a Cerberus I made earlier :
http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=4100.msg89215#msg89215

Here is a kind of reverse experiment : a Cerberus with three PZL7 heads :

the head are on a flexible neck, so you can imagine them moving around  ;)

next time you'll have to motorize them so the props do spin & the "heads" move ;)

ah, motorizing 1/72 kits does require quite refined skills, doesn't it?

but the propellers can move, manually, and each can turn round ;
you better synchronize them, of course

Definitely one of the more imaginative creations to come along! I especially like how the engines mimic the growl of that mythical beast. I've got to tip my hat to your vision and creativity!

thanks a lot! your appreciation feeds my imagination  ;)

for the growl effect, I had initally thought of having three F86 Sabre (or Mig 15 of a mix of them), but in 1/72 they are too wide for the necks ... maybe next time I can try in 1/100? ;D

P38 and pencils (Saint Exupery) Re: hybrid aircraft/animals and others
« Reply #373 on: November 22, 2015, 08:28:45 PM »

Saint Exupery was the author who wrote "Le Petit Prince", and he made drawings too ;
he disappeared in a P38 in 1944.
This hybrid mixes a P38 with pencils :

Marvelous! I will have to draw this (with your name) on my fantasy-P38-drawings website! adding maybe a version with writing ink-feathers? ('plumes à encre' would have said St-Exupery).
Thanks again for this invention of yours! :-* :-* :-*
