I come asking for help
« on: October 20, 2014, 10:46:55 AM »
I come to the brilliant creative minds inhabiting this forum asking for their assistance. As usual, I have projects that I have constructed but are left naked. When it comes to painting a project I always bog down. I am at a loss for an idea on how to finish this one project in particular.
I was thinking of a futuristic air racing scenario. Any thoughts on what I could do with this bird?

Anything that will get me off the starting block will be greatly appreciated.

Air racing or sci-fi.  Seems to lend itself to both.  Has a bit of a Battlestar meets the 1950-60's vibe to it if you ask me  8)

Is that masking on the front and back of the engine nacelles?   I do agree with the comment about the Battlestar meets 1950s-60s vibe, it does have that.  So, perhaps silver, or polished metal, with brightly-colored trim suggesting speed?  Say, something along the lines of Lufthansa markings from the thirties, with the lightning bolt along the fuselage, trimmed in red with yellow outlines and the nacelles done similarly.

For example. take:

The nacelle lightning bolts could run just above the wing or split and run just above and just below the wing or run along the top and bottom centerlines of the nacelles.

I was looking over your model and a thought occurred to me, do the lightning bolts in black with yellow trim down the upper and lower centerlines of the fuselage and nacelles and it could also serve as an anti-glare panel for that long expanse of fuselage in front of the pilot.

Just a thought thrown out.

Want some inspiration totally out of left field? For some reason, when I first looked at it, I thought of some of the spaceships from the Disney's Lilo & Stitch. Very much sci-fi hot rods—and painted ot fit.

Jumba's Ship
The Red One

Maybe something like these?

Or this?

Cheers,

LILO and stitch! There are some great opportunities from that movie!
I've gotten some other input suggesting metal finish. You folks are seeing something that I never did. I made a good choice asking for help here.

May I suggest gold paint? As your model is so weird, I consider it as a jewel... :-*

Thanks for the compliments. Jewel? I don't know if I would go that far.....
For the air racing theme I would have to invest in lots of sponsor decals. Any air racing decals out there? Otherwise its a good reason to buy some stock car kits!

Looks like something from Naboo (Star Wars) to me... so overall polished chrome would work.

For air racing I would go with technology companies, maybe done up in something like Boeing, Northrop or Lockmart house colours as a base. 21 Century aerospace racing. :)

Natural metal seems to be a popular idea. I would not have considered it myself but you folks may be on to something! I would have to add some cheat lines or other details.

Love the shape and concur with the BSG feel.

It will rock in any colour. What about and SR-71 type Recon Scheme ?

My vote's for the He-70 scheme, but in red over either white or bare metal.

Love the shape of this futuristic racer!

Here's a rundown on the very interesting suggestions so far from this and other sites:

BSG
ST Naboo/royal yacht
retro NMF with stripes/cheat lines etc
SR-71 black
Gold
Lilo and Stitch
Luft or US '46/'52
Air speed record attempt
Tamiya British racing green
battered and weathered racer
NASCAR or Formula I
Reno Air races

Not quite sure what to make of it all yet but it is reviving my enthusiasm for this project.

Well at least I've made one decision lately. I'm going with a blue fuselage with yellow wings, a throw back to USAAC days backn in the 30s. I found some P-40 decals in the stash that will work perfectly. I'll use the white star on blue circle with the red dot in the middle for insignia with a red and white striped rudder. Now if Santa will bring me the time to do it!
