Okay. Not 32.  Only two of the F-101Cs. One RCAF and one Flygvapnet.

Of course I have the update F-101C Voodoo sitting on my bench that I converted from a Hasegawa RF-101. Waaah!
Of course, now it will be easier to build another.

We thank you for "taking one for the team", kerick!  :) Perhaps you would like to build and superdetail a Heller SAAB Viggen next, no?  ;D

Yeah, converting a kit to something that doesn't exist always motivates a model company to issue it a month later. Glade I could help!

I likely won't be purchasing one, not a big fan of single seat Voodoos, but if that RF-101C kit means that the Frog/Hasegawa monstrosity is on a one way trip to the styrene boneyard it can only be good news.

Does anyone have experience with this company? Can we expect quality? A straight up F-101C might be nice to build if these kits are decent.

I did replace the wheels and seat on the the one on my bench with parts from a Hasegawa Phantom. Its an improvement.

They are multimedia kits, so you can expect resin and PE parts in the mix. While they have made improvements to plastic molding over the past couple of years, they aren't "shake and bake" kits.

I built their Fisher P-75 Eagle a few years ago and it was a real fight, primarily because the styrene was thick, hard and needed to be cut off the sprue with a razor saw.

Their more recent kits, like the Fouga Magister are much better in such regards.

Here's reviews of a couple of their more recent releases:

Thanks for the information. If this is any indication their work keeps getting better so these F-101s might be decent. Now if the price is right......
Title: Re: Valom
Post by: Chris on April 10, 2015, 10:20:29 PM
I've built a few of their kits, the P.75 and Brigand among others, and as said they are definitely not shake and bake and require a level of skill and patience.

However I recently got their new tool Bristol Bombay and have started it. They do seem to have improved over their earlier kits. A better fit and it is going ok at the moment - touching wood.

Most companies improve with time (witness AZ and RS who improved their quality very quickly IMHO) but Valom seem to have taken a little longer then most

Through Rob Stevens at West Coast Hobbys, I leaned that Valom will be releasing a F-101A and RF-101A to complete their existing F-101C and RF-101C. Also a Fokker T.5.

Oh the possibilities

I recall reading that the Mosquito was evolved from an albatross bomber concept so the idea come to mind that a mosquito with an albatross fuselage would make an interesting high speed airliner/transport.

I was only talking with Neil Gaunt a couple of months ago about the time and cost of developing a new model for market. Seems a bit coincidental that Valom is planning a release of an aircraft that just wasn't on anyone's radar before (especially when there was only seven real ones built), makes you wonder how much of Neil's kit was copied ----

Can't speak to that but there is a precedence to this (in this case it is a co-operative venture) where AZ Model has just released a styrene Saunders-Roe SR.53 based on Colin Strachan's Freightdog OOP resin kit.

Even though the aircraft is very good looking, out of the seven built, five of them crashed and the two left were scrapped before they could crash. On top of that their service life was very short, couple of years at best (civilian and military together)

It's happened an awful lot in the past. As for the SR.53, which was on sale at Telford, at least it is an agreed co-operation and Colin will be issuing his own boxing, with different transfers, shortly.

Sorry, I didn't see the AZ SR.53 sprues, it's not really my period of interest and I've already built one resin one. However they were going like hot cakes if that's any help.

I'm not surprised. A nice complement to Chris's SR.177.  I finally found a sprue shot over a Brtimodeller (not surprised).  Only 37 parts. My kind of kit.

Allison 250's or something equivalent in size and power would be the best choice, IMHO.  I suspect going with larger engines like the PT6A, TPE331, or Astazou would be a bit of "overkill".

I thought Valom had already done those, I'm got the Mk.II in the stash too.

EDIT; umm maybe not, I think I must have read sometime ago they were going to do the Centaurus versions in the future.

Pretty much a RN Skyraider.

Yup!  the TF Mk.IV went into service in September 1945, the two prototype Skyraiders flying only a couple of months before that.

Thanks guys, now I know what to do with my 1/48 Magna Models one.  Something in Korea or Vietnam and armed to the teeth as a CAS bird.

Pretty much a RN Skyraider.

Just not nearly as good. I have loved the look of the Firebrand since I first ran across it, but it was never more than adequate to it's task.
Still. I will have to pick the Mk V up - and fake up a couple of 7.2 inch Burneys for the underwings. ;)

What is a 7.2 Burney   ???

For my MB6 I made up a pair of 7.2" Triplex rockets

Now that's inspired!

Looking forward to seeing it one day,

Same here, love the look. love the concept, just spoilt a bit by the knowledge that it wasn't really up to scratch.  Similar feelings towards the Wyvern.

There was a proposal for a 7.2" Burney recoilless rifle to go with the 3.45" one.

Thanks, I did a image search and found pics of those, just didn't think they would be mounted on an aircraft so wasn't sure. I guess it wouldn't be much different to those 'bazooka' type rp launchers the USAAF used during WWII

Sorry to be late in replying - but already ably answered, I see.

Although they seem never to have been prototyped and trialed, the first of the British Secrect Project books noted a number of early
jets intended to mount large automatic recoilless rifles in the wings. The 7.2 is pure fantasy - but I am prone to excess.

It'll be Valom's own tooling, whether it'll actually be any better than the Williams Bros. kit
is the question. Valom's track record is spotty.
