Italari wrecker truck
« on: March 03, 2019, 02:38:43 AM »
Hey I know I said I was going to do some of my stalled builds but this has been calling me since I bought it, probably as I've not built a truck before (you get a lot of plastic for your money)

I know a lot of people don't like it but I'm doing it as an old and tired truck, in the past I've got a lot of flack for doing this type of stuff, well it's my model and I like doing old. (I've ordered some inkjet decal paper so hopefully I can make my own decals)

I may get another truck or bus for it to be towing.

Made a start on weathering it.

A clean and shiny wrecker... is just wrong, so rusty and beat up is good. If this is 1/24 or 1/25, you could add one of the Master Box trucker figures.

Hate to be a spoiler but the hood/bonnet is usually fiberglass and the cab is frequently aluminum. Unless it’s a really old truck. Or you could tell me to buzz off.

No complaints from me & never will be. 8)

Just turn the "rust" into gobs of dirt or whatever. I had a work truck at a construction site once and it got spattered with concrete.
I hope my attempt at helpfulness hasn't caused you too much trouble.
Your technique looks impressive.

That's an absolutely brilliant idea and makes me think of every work truck I've ever known.

Wish I'd read that last one would have saved me getting rid of the rust. Still I'm liking how my faded paintwork is going now.
Pics to follow later.

Hi all well I've redone the bodywork so no rust but staining and sun bleaching (Still more to do but that will have to wait till I've made and added my decals)

Done some to the chassis (boy are they complicated) and started on the engine.

Certainly don't mind a beat up truck; too many sanitized models at shows! When you have a look at real ones on the high/byways they'll be dusty dirty with patches of rust or bent corners and stuff. Keep up the good work.  8)

Hi all here's another update, loads more to do in the interior. I tried to get the steam from the hot cup of coffee on the windscreen (not particularly sucessfull but I tried) I feel I need to add a lot more rubbish in the cab I also need to dirty up the side windows as well, I'm getting there slowly.

I should clarify what I said above. I just make a controlled scratch. I don't try to cut all the way through the clear plastic. I just don't want anyone to ruin a part.

More work on the wrecker. Its a great kit but the instructions are really bad, soooooo confusing, moved those fuel tanks twice.

Just to clarify I didn't want to crack the screen I wanted to depict the sort of steamy effect you get when you put a hot cup of coffee on your dashboard (you know like condensation)

Hi all well I was given an idea for displaying this which I thought would be quite fun (and as you all know I like doing "out there" stuff) sooo, this was going to be a robot but I thought it lent itself better to this so I stripped it all down and will be using it for the dio, what's the dio going to be? Well I'm sure you will work it out.

And there's this little guy. I'm calling him ted.

Maybe I will give him a few warts or something.

Bet it’s a foreign model spaceship. Going to be really hard to get parts. Ted might have order direct from the manufacturer. Delivery is going to take a long time.
