FROG 1/72 Hawker Tsunami floatplane.
« on: December 15, 2017, 07:29:45 AM »
This is the old FROG Typhoon from 1959.

I’ve scratchbuilt an interior, radiator, and float pylons. The propeller is from a Heller Tempest and the floats are of unknown origin via the scrapbox.

I’m not certain if this will be military or a demilitarized postwar Schneider Cup racer. It all depends on what decals can be sourced from my scrapbox.

More later.

Adios, Larry.

Nice concept, looking good.

My three ha'porth

I recon it would look good in coastal command colours  grey/green upper white everywhere else, something like the coastal command Wellingtons. Could be used for anti-submarine/E-Boat patrols.

Or maybe as a defence fighter that is shot off a catapult on a capital ship.

Definitely a fleet defence fighter for the FAA.  Beaverbrook's ruling in aircraft production would of course have been over ruled by Churchill (who remembered the fighters launched from capital ships in WWI), permitting the type to enter service in early to mid 1941 on the new and modernised battleships, battlecruisers and cruisers with cross deck cats and hangers for large aircraft such as the TSR (Swordfish) and Walrus.

Racer, please. The guns would probably have to go - unless the Schneider rules get drastic changes..... Any other speed mods?

They look like 1/48 Edo floats from the Otter kit, using some that look like that for my Bolingbroke floatplane.

Not a clue! I don’t build 1/48. They are thick plastic with no holes. My memory is like a rusted-out galvanized sieve with many gaping holes. Adios, Larry.

She is finished. Brush-painted Testors Silver and top-coated with Future. The fictitious registration is from leftover decals from my Glencoe 1/48 Republic Seabee.

Pictured ready for trials for the 1947 Schneider Cup Trophy Race at Caldhot. The pilot is Flight Lieutenant A.R.P. Reilly-Foul.
