It's really nice to see a scale HiLux in styrene that's for sure and the option of two is better.
Regards,
John
-
Got the one with the ZPU-1 in the back. It looks very nice indeed. Sure hope they'll continue that line. Would love to see a 40 series and a 70 series Land Cruiser, for instance.
Oh, and someone has to do a ragtag band (sungigs, flipflops, football shirts, the lot) of Somalis as a crew. :D
-
Hope to see both of the Meng truck kits soon via my local polystyrene enabler at Skyway Modelshop (http://www.skywaymodel.com/).

You actually get two kits in the pack.

Interesting vehicle and certainly very "tank-like" even with what are passing for wheels in this case.

The "Civvie" version works great for any variety of post-apocalyptic scenarios, from nuclear war to zombie plague. Or traffic jams...

Alvis 3.1
The MSRP of ~$80.00 sort of takes the fun out of imagining anything with that kit :(
-
Great googly moogly! I never even thought to look at the sticker price...egads!
Never mind, I'll go back to the Snap together Revellogram kits in 1/32, I'm pretty sure I can still source those for a tad less.

Great to see the Mansyu in injection instead of resin and in the 'true' scale. :P

Most definitely!!! :D

Bah! Wrong scale! :(
Well we wee scaler's cannot get the cool Trumpeter Me 509.
You know what, there should be a law that all WHIF models must be available in both 1/72 and 1/48.

Some Meng Models news courtesy of Perth Modelling Military Site. LINK (http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/mengmodel.html)
1/35 A39 Tortoise (lots of whiffery goodness possible!)
1/35 Merkava 3D early
1/35 Middle Eastern civilans
-
The Tortoise is a surprise to be sure. Great to see a company going out on a limb with a 35th scale project that isn't a paper panzer for a change.
Regards,
John
-
Tortoise is certainly on the to be watched for list.
-
Oh yeah! That Mansyu Ki-98 is gonna be a must buy!

Martin Kovac has posted some images of his Meng Model 1/35th scale Vs.Kfz.617 Minesweeper (kit number SS001) (http://www.network54.com/Forum/110741/thread/1333986868/Heavy+Mine+Roller+%26quot%3BAlkett%26quot%3B+%281-35+Meng%29) at Missing-Lynx forums.
This is such an odd looking vehicle that looks like it escaped from some science fiction film and not an actual design from WW2.

I agree 100%. It could also be a WW1 creation. It always looks like it is going the wrong way to me though. Would have been something to see in action.
BTW, the finishing on that model is incredible. Photograph it the right way, and people would think it were real life rather than a model.
-
Here's hoping that Meng will consider producing some of the WW2 era US prototype tanks like the T20-22-23, T25, T14 and the T28/95 super heavy in 1/35 scale. The Tortoise gives me hope for some Allied whiffery to counter all the paper panzers we've seen in recent years.

Got that kit the other week direct from HK. Very nice

I hope to kit the Katsudori one of these days-but I couldn't help but be tickled looking at the build-ups

And post WW II era prototypes, too. I'd love a good 1/35 T92 kit.

This kit is the first in their "Tyrannosaurus" range -- Meng state that they intend to become the world-leader of model kits with quality & subject matter (ie they will knock Tamiya out) -- so we may see other super-Tanks.
Moulding & fit of this kit is Tamiya standard and subject matter is streets ahead of anything Tamiya have done.

That's quite ballsy of them to call that a review, given that they just regurgitated the info and pics from the Meng website (LINK (http://www.meng-model.com/index2_new.php?id=185)). Ad verbatim.

I have not visited the Meng website for the last few weeks so I was unaware they had finally added some content.
I hope they will offer the F-101 and F-106 at some time in the future.
And yes, this is a nasty bit of plagiarism.

^ Hey, no problem. Wasn't aimed at you in person. :)
Totally hearin' ya on the F-101 and F-106. They'd be awesome follow-ups to this. Ah, a new-tool F-101A, with the provision for a RF-101C, that'd be something.

The -101 and -106 are the only century fighters which have not been re-tooled to a 90's or 00's state of quality.
For me personally, I'd like to see the F-101A and C, the CF-101B and F, the one off EF-101B, the RF-101A, C, G, H and finally the RF-101B. Just a small shelf is needed for display. ;D

Did I see someone say that the Meng 1/35 A39 Tortoise has issues?
-
Did I see someone say that the Meng 1/35 A39 Tortoise has issues?
I've read a couple of the build reviews and there are some things to watch for (in the suspension mainly) as the instruction are a little weak in places. I'd recommend to anyone building to track down the other builds first. As to accuracy I don't think there's much to worry about apart from the fact it's a early prototype. Some modellers are adding (and complaining about the lack of) details from the later vehicles.
-
issues ?? There is a great 4-part build review on Modellers Social Club http://modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=armor (http://modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=armor)
The only issues are 1. its of the only complete surviving prototype P-1 (no production). 2. later prototypes had a shell-port in the LHS. 3. shape of the upper LHS mantlet area is a bit off (easy to fix with some putty) & armour texture is generic (but very nice !).
I've fixed the mantlet & shell-port on my kit but otherwise haven't built it yet.
Only rivet-counters & JMNs can complain about this kit -- DML's T-28 may have worse problems.

Ah, but you left out the really funky-looking single-seater with J79s that was bailed to GE in the 50's as a zip fuel testbed. It had the J79 nozzles at the back end of what look to be F-101B afterburner shapes (the long ones) and a big GE logo on the vertical.

when they do the late model "Operation Daguet" with all the last-upgrade bits I'll get one :) The Heller kit was & is a real DOG ! :icon_twisted:
..... and yes, their modus operandi of a series name is good ..... dead (at birth) or extinct dinosaur tanks so far ;D

Any chance of them doing any more Japanese unbuilt aircraft? I'd love a good J4M1 among others.

Really!. That's a pleasant surprise.
-
I wonder if the kit breakdown will allow them to do a G-91T at a later time?
They're right, though, a new one of these is overdue.
-
It would be nice to see the G-91Y in 1/48th scale in something other than resin. Maybe Meng will take the chance.
-
The ADV Models one is very, very nice though.

Meng has now added another modern 1:35th scale French armor subject to their stable. This time it is the AUF1 155mm Self-propelled Howitzer based on the AMX30 (http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/mengmodel.html).
Certainly intended to please many and of course it will hopefully see a major drop in the price for the rather shoddy alternative offered by Heller. That would be a Win-Win for anyone wanting to do a what if project based on an AMX30 or the AUF1 but has been put off by the high price on the Heller kits.
-
Very Welcome...though that turret will probably end up on another hull...maybe a Leo 1 or even a Chieftain.

You can get aftermarket Royal Ordnance 105mm L7/M68 barrels, so there's an easy whiff for the AMX-30: an export model for a customer who didn't fancy the French gun.
There have been any number of proposals to put the GCT/AUF-1 turret on other hulls.

The GAZ Tiger is an odd choice. The Bulldozer has so many possibilities, though...
-
The GAZ Tiger is an odd choice. <...>
Meng seems to be all about odd choices! :icon_beer: Japanese Luft 46, F-102, Minenräumer, G.91, AMX-30, HiLux technical,...thinking about it, I guess the most mainstream thing they've done so far is probably their Merkava 3. :icon_surprised:
The dozer is great. The old Land Cruiser's awesome as well. I guess these two, along with Zvezda's BMPT, are my armour highlights of 2013!
-
The thing with the GAZ Tiger though, from a whiff POV, is that it's pretty much a generic modern "protected patrol vehicle", so you could pass it off as anybody's made by anyone. Stick a Milan or an AAT-52 on the roof and claim it to French and no one would bat an eyelid.... >:D
-
I like the fact that Meng has stepped up to produce things that are not in main stream focus such as that GaZ Tiger. I recently downloaded and installed Arma 2 in order to try my hand at the DayZ mod I have been getting a lot of ideas for models that might never have been and that GaZ Tiger has a lot of potential for a DayZ themed vehicle. Add in the Trumpeter PMC figures and it would be perfect for a nice little vignette somewhere in the DayZ 'verse.
The Caterpillar D9 bulldozer will certainly make a lot of customers happy in the fact that they are not stuck with the horrible resin offering as the only model available. The price should be substantially less too which should make it more attractive. I would have settled for a less glamorous bulldozer such as what was used by U.S. Army combat engineer units in the Vietnam conflict or the cold war era. But why am I complaining? An injection molded plastic bulldozer! FTW :)
-
I wonder if they'll come out with an option to build a regular, non-military, D9.
'Twould give folks a lot more options.
-

I agree, it would be much more attractive in some cases to not have to build Darth Dozer. Perhaps that option is there by not using those parts specifically for the military version? One can hope? :)

As long as that universe is populated by deformed humanoids, that is. The figures look ok on their own, from a distance, in poor light... but stand them next to a figure made by any other company (even the stiff, melty 1970s Tamiya guys) and you'd be wondering who dressed up human-gorilla hybrids and gave them guns.
That said, the GaZ Tiger, Iveco whatisname that Italeri is coming out with, the Revell Dingo and the Trumpeter Fennik (please don't pull a typical Trumpeter dimension and shape screwup!) are all good news!

I suspect that if you survive long enough in the DayZ 'verse you could end up looking very much like those Trumpeter PMC figures. A steady diet canned pasta, beans, and beans n weenies all washed down with the likes of Pepsi, Coke, and Dew should alter your body mass rather quickly to resemble those hunks in the PMC kits :)
BTW, the executive figure in the Trumpeter PMC figures set would be ideal for one of the zombies in DayZ with the only real difference being the zombie executive wears a jacket with his tie.

Spot the freak:

All three are the same guy! The inbred monstrosity on the left is the original PMC figure; deformed, short, sad. After some plastic surgery, he became the so-awesome-he-believes-his-own -press operator on the right.
Here's 3/4 of the PMC w/VIP set (I was tired of plastic surgery that didn't involve boobs, so I didn't finish the forth guy):

The VIP still looks like he has a dad-uncle or aunt-mom in the family tree...
We now return you to your Meng Models thread, already in progress.

The executive-zombie appears to be one step removed from flinging his feces while dragging knuckles on the ground though it is a very good representation of a modern businessman or bureaucrat.
The PMC Guy on the right looks more humanoid than the PMC Guy on the right. Sadly there are no options for a PMC Guy with a mullet :)

I wonder if they'll come out with an option to build a regular, non-military, D9.
'Twould give folks a lot more options.
Indeed it would. Personally, I'd have preferred an older, smaller 'dozer without the elevated sprocket wheel but I'll settle for this one. As I suggested, it has potential for a great many dioramas.

The T-90 will be a welcome addition. Not sure I like the deathly prose in the announcement you've linked to, Greg. Anybody know what the two red things on the turret front are?
-
Part of the Shtora-1 counter-ATGM system.
Protection
...
The T-90 is fitted with a "three-tiered" protection systems. The first tier is the composite armour in the turret, consisting of basic armour shell with an insert of alternating layers of aluminum and plastics and a controlled deformation section.[5]
The second tier is third generation Kontakt-5 ERA (explosive reactive armor) which significantly degrades the penetrating power of kinetic-energy APFSDS ammunition and also these ERA blocks give the turret its distinctive angled "clam shell" appearance. ERA bricks are also located on the turret roof and provide protection from top-attack weapons. The turret's forward armour package in addition to the ERA and steel plating contains a composite filler sandwiched of Russian composite armour between upper and lower steel plates, the composite armour results in a lower weight and improved protection when compared with steel-only armour.[5]
The third tier is a Shtora-1 (Russian: Штора-1 or "curtain" in English) countermeasures suite, produced by Elektromashina of Russia. This system includes two electro-optical/IR "dazzlers" on the front of the turret (which gives the distinct Red Eyes), four Laser warning receivers, two 3D6 aerosol grenade discharging systems and a computerized control system. The Shtora-1 warns the tank's crew when the tank has been 'painted' by a weapon-guidance laser and allows the crew to slew the turret to face the threat. The infrared jammer, the TShU1-7 EOCMDAS, jams the semiautomatic command to line of sight (SACLOS) guidance system of some anti-tank guided missiles. The aerosol grenades are automatically launched after Shtora detects that it has been painted. The aerosol grenades are used to mask the tank from laser rangefinders and designators as well as the optics of other weapons systems. Indian T-90S tanks are not equipped with the Shtora-1 countermeasures suite.[5] it will be equipped with the LEDS-150 Land Electronic Defence System.

The red things are the IR jammers of the "Shtora" countermeasures suite. Basically, you point the turret at an incoming SACLOS ATGW and they project a flickering, coded IR light which swamps the genuine IR flare in the back of the missile. This confuses the goniometer in the guidance unit which is trying to track the missile, and it goes off course. Seems to be some debate about how effective they are, and of course, they won't stop a MACLOS missile, a TV one like a Javelin, or a laser-homer, although Shtora includes other sub-systems to deal with some of those. Maybe.

I'll pass on the FT, may get their Merkava IIIBaz.
Hopefully, with the 100th anniversary coming up, Meng will come out with other WW1 subjects .... A7V, British Mk.1 (with trails), British Mk.IV, Whippet, GunCarrier, French St.Chamond (eary & late versions), French/US Schneider etc etc
Forget about the 2nd-rate manufacturers (Tamiya & Dragon) doing those.
-
Ooooooooooooooooooooo ....... !!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps a "good" kit of an FT-17 !!!!!!!
-
You could imagine all kinds of steampunk projects based on that: steam power, walking machine etc...
Less radically, the fact that they describe it as "cast turret" implies that they're going to do a rivetted turret version at some point, and IIRC, both turret types came with either the 37mm or a Hotchkiss MG. Given how many countries really did buy these things and/or build variants of them in the 1920s/1930s, you could get away with just about any combination of markings and weapons as a credible what if...

Oh good - that's their next "safe" release sorted, so the one after that should be something oddball again... ;)
-
^ Hmmm. Let's see. 1/72 is considered oddball these days. Cold War era fighters are also pretty oddball. Especially when they were flown by only one air arm. Which can only mean that the next aircraft will be a 1/72 F-106 Delta Dart. :D I mean, the logic is sound, right?
Ah, a man can dream! :uuu:

We got a couple of those in to the store I work at. Yep, it's a big Cat. :o
Impressive kit, but seems a bit limited in its' cross spectrum appeal. But when I own a model company, I'd put out kits that only appeal to the vast majority. ;D ;D

Indeed, ESPECIALLY if they follow it with a 1/48 up-scale so I can get back to work on an old prof's Six without fighting with the psychotic-episode-inducing features of the Revellogram kit.

Which Cold War fighter have they made that was only used by one air arm? ;)
Just looking round their website, I noticed these that havn't been mentioned on here:

I'm getting to really love this company! :-*
They bring out good quality kits of different subjects & their 4x4's can be used in both military & non-military settings. :D
Now I see they've got accessory packs! 8)
Gotta get me a few of those new Landcruisers pickups, too, at least a couple for post-apocalypse dio's, when I get back to the mainland. ;)

Meng have also announced a pure bomber version of the Me410:

Hmmm...one of these with antitank R4M rockets underwing?

...or X-7 Rotchappen! The one mod I've never seen for the 410 is the revolver mount for the large
air to air rockets. ( I forgets the designation. :-[ )

I'll take one of those "revolvers" if anyone does it or a conversion :D
Unfortunately only one aircraft was built. Ground-tests showed that while it didn't do a lot of good for the Short Stirling they used as the target (the one they flew), it also pretty much wrecked the 410 forward-fuselage section :icon_crap:

No thanks on the X-7 Rotkäppchen! The thought of wire guided missiles on a low level me410 is not pleasant. A battery of Panzerblitz II will do nicely instead.

Leopard 1A3 / 4.
Happy dance!

Now, that will be nice. About time we had a new Leopard 1a3/4.

I'm pretty happy about the Leo 1. The old Italeri kit is still pretty good but I imagine the Meng kit will be quite an improvement for probably not a lot more money than the current (excessive) price of the mid- 70s Italeri tool.

I'd expect that Italeri 1A4 price to drop to around $25 verrrry soon. Lucky had the 1A5 on sale for $22 recently. Expect more Leopards from Meng.

And it just so happens that I'd be flat broke every time Lucky had the Italeri 1A5 on sale... just my luck! :( The thing about the Italeri 1A4 is that you can still find earlier issue kits on eBay for less than the current retail price (~ $40 USD). Hopefully, market pressure along with the release of the Meng kit will bring the price down to a more reasonable level.
As for the Meng kit itself, I'm pretty happy even though it'll probably be in the $55-$60 USD range. I can definitely see using it to build a 1A5 DK and if it's a significant improvement over the Italeri kit, possibly a C2 Mexas as well.

This kit consists of 471 plastic parts on 23 sprues and 10 PE parts on 2 PE frets. Periscopes and lights are provided with clear parts; all hatches can be modelled open or closed; armour protection for periscope and grilles for engine compartment can be precisely presented with PE parts; track links and one-piece TPE tracks are included; three options (German Leopard 1 A3/A4 or Greek Leopard 1 A3) are provided.

Sadly far too late for me - I waited & waited for a plastic one so finally bought the AEF resin conversion 15yrs ago & have since gone off IDF vehicles.
Though if Meng do a Namer apc very soon I might consider it.
A WW1 Brit Mk.I with trailing wheels, grenade cradle etc or a Schneider would definately get me to pre-order one ..... also waiting for a 35th Sentinel Tank :icon_sueno:

I thought it was a real 'what-if' so googled it. Found that a few had actually been built -- amazing but obviously designed to circumvent trench warfare

From today's HYPERSCALE postings...

Meng 1:24th scale Ford F-350 Super Duty Crew Cab Kit First Look By Michael Benolkin (http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/meng/kit_meng_cs001.shtml) at CyberModeler
(http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/meng/images/meng_cs001_titletn.jpg) (http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/meng/kit_meng_cs001.shtml)
Why 1:24th scale? Meng had produced two very nice 1:35th scale commercial trucks (Niisan/Datsun and the Toyota) armed with weapons that were a step up from any other commercial vehicle model kit that had been previously offered by any other model manufacturer. If they had continued with that trend, the F-350 kit would have been ideal for the association with the PMC/Mercenary groups that have been using similar vehicles in contested areas. I would have preferred it in 1:35th scale for the zombie apocalypse/dystopian future potential thanks to all of the nice accessories available in that scale. We can always hope that a scaled down F-350 will be produced to keep interest going from the armor modelers that work in that scale.
-
1/24th scale is very common for car kits.
-
1/24th scale is very common for car kits.
and 1:25th scale too but looking at what Meng had already produced in 1:35th scale it would have been nice to see that F-350 in the same scale as the Datsun/Nissan and Toyota vehicles.
-
My guess they are after the lucrative Auto Modellers Market, which has been crying out for an F-350 for years now.
*Cricket noises*
Yeah, actually, I've never once had anyone ask me if there was an F-350 kit made.
Oh well.

Will it be cheaper than the Revell one though? >:D
I think you already know the answer to that question Brian.
TBH, I was a bit surprised at Meng coming out with a model of the Pzh 2000. Granted the Revell kit does not have a lot of the bells and whistles that Meng is offering but I have never read of or heard of anything negative regarding the Revell Pzh 2000.

-
Waiting for them to do a Chieftain and perhaps a range of Centurions
Is there something wrong with the AFV Club Centurion? I know there are at least four or maybe it is six variations on the Centurion now available from AFV Club last time I checked.
As for the Chieftain it would be nice to see a new Chieftain kit to replace the older [forty years?] Tamiya kit.
-
The AFV Club Cent is pretty nice, but they have yet to maximize the moulds on other variants (ARV, AVRE, AVLB) etc. Pretty much have stuck to the gun tanks...which may be a savvy business model.
-
Must admit I completely forgot about the AFV Club Cents, have never seen them in a shop so they just didn't even come to mind.
-
Yeah, an AVRE Centurion by AFV Club and a Chieftain family by Meng - that'd be awesome! >:D
-
I think we'll see a Gepard from Meng.

it's been reported that Meng have cancelled their best-seller model - the D9R armoured Cat bulldozer -- no more of this kit will be produced -- so if you see one, grab it !! Seems Caterpillar are demanding royalties that make it un-economic to continue with this subject. Happened before to other model companies in the past so I expect anything "Cat" will not be done in plastic in future - only di-cast models.
Wonder if Mirror Models' WW2 D7 tractor/dozer & Plus Model's just-announced (resin) WW2-ish road-grader will also be targeted by the scrooges at Caterpillar.

That sucks.
-
They should just rename it like Tamiya do to get around the "Jeep" name. Their Jeeps are "Patrol Vehicles". This kind of money grabbing ownership stuff really pisses me off about companies. Now if I was to produce a Bulldozer and call the range .... hmmm .. D9, then yeah fair cop. But a model - really? It's not like the model companies are making really serious money off the kits with their brands on and I doubt they practise what they're complaining about either. It's a bit of friggin advertising for them too, free I might add. Grrrrrrr.
-
The thing is, they are actually cutting their nose off, to spite their face. Effectively, they are getting free advertising and by stopping that, they're only hurting themselves.
-
Where has that been reported? Can't find anything on it other than raafif's post here. Nothing "official" on Meng's website, Twitter or Facebook pages either.
-
reported on Armorama via a reputable wholesaler - like I said, it has happened before to ERTL & others by Cat & GMC etc.
-
Wasn't that long ago there was a discussion on one forum about the RAF doing that for any of their marking, the roundels especially.
And while chatting one time with the owner of Aircraft in Miniature, BOAC got after him because he was doing a BOAC 747 and they wanted a license fee (IIRC I was asking about some Concorde BOAC decals he had also done one time)
-
iHappened before to other model companies in the past so I expect anything "Cat" will not be done in plastic in future - only di-cast models.
Round2 recently re-released the old 1/25th AMT Cat dozer, so that makes that hypothesis questionable.
Frankly, I don't believe anything about production issues, licensing questions etc. unless it comes from the actual companies involved. Hobby board rumours are no different than the hobbyshop rumours of an
earlier age.

There was talk pre Timor and pre Abrams buy of Australia buying surplus Leo 1A5 turrets and retro fitting them to our Leo AS1 as a cheap way to upgrade the fire control and armour.
Instead we purchased ex-Canadian Leopard 1a4 turrets and some hulls. Indeed, the Leopard on display at Pucka is actually a Canadian hull (easily discerned by the vertical "divisions" in the exhaust louvres on the hull sides. Ours never had them.
These new turrets were gradually swapped through the AS1 fleet apparently. Their fire control systems were compatible with the standards AS1 to make training easier. All or rather obviously nearly all, ended up as either targets or scrap when the AS1 was retired.

I just noticed that Meng state on their packaging a fact that most purchasing agents, & indeed most manufacturers, don't understand; "This is not a toy".
Wouldn't mind the Mk.V & the T-10M would be useful for a sci-fi build.

Some modellers are telling model manufacturers that we don't want vinyl / rubber tires on our kits too .... that would remind the sellers that we build "static scale models" not toys.

No I leave that to my four year old daughter when she uses a chair to reach the kits on display :o one sopwith camel and one RAAF Growler down.

Well .... Yes ... Of course ... but ... well ... that's obviously not what I build them for! :-[
-
for those who want to go "brrmmm, brrrmmmm....", Tamiya is the choice - after releasing the static kit they always seem to then add a motorised version of a new kit.

for lovers of egg-planes ....

Some parts of the Meng kit are a bit crude -- fix the astro-dome collar by reducing or removing & adding Hasegawa's gun barrels, upper turret & wheels would make a good mix.
Lanc.

As an aside, Meng appears to have re-issued its two 'Hikoki '46 kits, the Kayaba Ku-4 and Mansyu Ki-98.
Squadron has them in stock. and the price on the Kayaba was dropped a couple dollars from yesterday's
listed price.
-
The Ki-98 provides such a nice, fun build. It's up there with the Revell Ar 555 in overall enjoyment.
Egg Planes, OTOH fill me with - I admit - an irrational hatred and rage.

That B-17 is adorable! I'd love to see more of the Lanc.

Looking at that B-17, I saw a built up Lancaster in the same style at the Coventry show yesterday. Very nice, reminded me of those aeroplane caricature's one used to see in the cartoons in Flight and the such like.
Apparently it will be generally available in the UK in July. The same source says they are doing/do a Liberator

In other words, have a truck mounted SA-6 and the rockets on the tracked 2P25 TEL.
-
good thinking 99.
However if the Smerch is expensive as the SCUD was... not a cheap kitbash
-
Lovely box-art on the Smerch! :-*
Nice idea swapping the armament. :) They use the same chassis for the big S-300 SAMs, so just three SA-6s might look kinda forlorn on such a big truck. Maybe a quintuple launcher? Three on top plus one on each side of an arm supporting the top row?
Speaking of bigger missiles: There's no S-200/SA-5 Gammon in 1/35, is there? >:D A mobile version of those would look wicked.

Well that was a surprise! Just when you thought no one would take on the Dragon or even the Tamiya King Tiger kits – MENG Model is now making their own “Bengal Tiger” in 35th scale – not much on it as of yet – but they have the best qualified King Tiger builder in the business & one of the premier museums in the world to get working on the development….You can also help and potentially get given your own kit in payment!
Blah blah blah ...
MENG promise to represent the most perfect King Tiger model kit they can make with the numerous real vehicle measurements and pictures as well as the factory drawings and historical photos.

1. Frecce Tricolori R/1 with 4 x 12.7mm HMGs & the later chisel nosed
2. Luftwaffe R/3 with 2 x 30mm DEFAs
3. US Army R/1 in cammo+orange trials colours

Had a quick look but couldn't see this set any where;

Not new kits but you get the 2 kits in one box minus the weapons they come with in other boxings.
Unfortunately they only come in left-hand drive, which is annoying, especially as Japanese cars are naturally right-hand drive.
Anyone know of anyone doing RHD conversions for these kits? ???
-
^ I just picked up that set from Sprue Bros during their 20% off Meng Sale. Was around $24 for the 2-kit box.
-
"Unfortunately they only come in left-hand drive, which is annoying, especially as Japanese cars are naturally right-hand drive."
... and sold worldwide for decades in the 10s of thousands in LHD. ;D
Plus the majority of 'technicals' encountered in SW Asia have been LHD,
which was MENG'S market intent.
Anyhow I took a look at my 70 kit (got it from Jeff Fontaine, he just wanted the guns),
and unfortunately it has the asymmetrical dash of older versions, so you can't just
cut-n-flip like later Toyota 'one-world' products.
There might be conversions in the Japanese car modelling cottage industry, but, stuff in
that world can be hard to find.
-
See lots of both in RHD here, usually about 10cms off somebodies bumper in 50-70km/h zones (or road works), or alternatively, 20 to 30km/h below in 90 and 100km/h zones. Occasionally you get one that has had a long run up doing 40 or 50 over the limit on the highway, rain, hail or shine.

To be expected, however have you seen any equipped with ZSU-23 in the back? ;)
Interestingly, while the Toyotas sold in South Africa are RHD, South African dealer group Imperial
sponsored Dakar Hilux are LHD.
-
Nup, but plenty of ATVs getting about with long arm cases fitted lots of feral, pigs cats dogs etc. and the occasional water buffalo, that or fishing rods because its monsoon at the moment and you can fish almost anywhere.

Well...now that you mention it it does get fairly agressive on the roads around knockoff time. ;D

Australia really is a wild country. The Mad Max series are documentaries, yes?

Australia really is a wild country. The Mad Max series are documentaries, yes?
Don't need fictional "Road Warriors" we have real killers, Bradly Murdoch, Ivan Milat, the Gang behind snowtown bodies in the barrels and many many more. The more police looked into Murdoch the more freaked out they became as it appeared, though it couldn't be proved, the murder they got him for was far from his first.

Moving back to models, here;s is a new one from Meng to counter the Rye Field M1 Assault Breacher:

One thing about the T-72 family (and to a lesser extent, the T-55/54) is that you'll probably never run out of modeling subjects!

My daughter is going to love it! I’m not joking either because she already wants the Tiger 1 and she say she wants to paint it pink and purple. (She’s four years old, BTW.)

C2 MEXAS with dozer
-
Copied from the Meng Facebook page.
Canada started to upgrade their Leopard C1 tanks to the Leopard C2 standard since the year 2000. The main upgrade was to fit the Leopard 1A5 turrets bought from the German Federal Ministry of Defence on the original Leopard C1 chassis. Other improvements included the installation of a thermal imager and the EMES 18 fire-control system. In 2006, the upgraded Leopard C2 tanks which were equipped with the MEXAS appliqué modular armor system joined the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. The concept of this armor system was quite advanced when it appeared in the 1990s. Its composite armor can protect against kinetic energy and chemical energy penetrators.
This MENG TS-041 Canadian Main Battle Tank Leopard C2 MEXAS w/Dozer Blade plastic model kit has a total of 500 parts. The finished model will be 270.2mm and 86.5mm high. This kit includes movable suspension, one-piece TPE tracks, clear light and periscope parts, and fine PE parts. The dozer blade is liftable and lowerable. Details under add-on armor are completely replicated.
During the development of this kit, we have received a lot of reference materials from the Canadian military specialist Mr. Anthony Sewards. He also took part in reviewing the kit design. Anthony Sewards served with the Canadian Military for over 26 years. Serving with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians). Anthony has served on 7 operational tours in the Middle East, Bosnia and multiple combat tours in Afghanistan commanding Leopard Tanks on combat operations. Now retired and has authored photo assistant books on Canadian Leopard tanks and the Canadian Leopard Project DVD reference series on the Canadian Leopard tanks in service, and is an international consultant to model companies.
With his help, this MENG product has become better and more accurate.

Ka-52s? :icon_surprised:
Yep - China has 36 Ka-52Ks on order.

Lots of dead photo links so this was probably covered already, but it came up as an advert on some page for $170 (with TWO Russian campaign ribbons!! Ooooooooooooooooh!)

Unrealistic. The turret's still on. >:D
Ka-52s? :icon_surprised:
Yep - China has 36 Ka-52Ks on order.
Interesting. Didn't know that. Somehow passed me by.
The Chinese will want to pressure the Russians into delivering them soon,.... while Russia still has any intact Ka-52s to sell. ;D
-
The Ukrainians can probably cobble a few working copies from the ones they've shot down.
That T-72 kit should come with rock armor:
They probably work better than the empty egg crates that Russian T-72s are currently sporting. The explosives never having been installed or sold off for some vodka.
-
They need those baskets full of rocks on top of the turret. From what I read that’s where most of the anti tank missiles hit. The problem with gravel like that is when it does take a hit any infantry nearby get sprayed with gravel bullets. That’s why everyone uses sandbags.
