By Legends Greg  ---   ;)

Got a couple of their 1/35 mini-guns which look really good.  Got them because I needed some  rotary cannons for a 1/72 project so the rest of the kit is surplus to requirements

1/35 scale, will be based on Academy M-113 kit, though not much of the donor kit will be used.

Originally, the whole lower hull tub was going to be used, but Legends decided they wanted the missile loading / servicing platforms to be able to be posed in the raised position, which meant the underside would be visible...which meant more details. The best way to do this was with another resin part.

Charlie Pritchett did the master. I provided some tech input through the process, but Charlie has an eye for detail...he was asking me questions about details I had no idea on, and I worked around ADATS for nearly a decade!

There's loads of whif potential with this - its basically the same Turret that was used on the Bradley Linebacker for the US Army LLAD project, and the Canadian Forces LAV-MMEV.

It would be great if one could also get just the missiles and turret…I have a few ideas of where else they could be used.

Like an M-41 hull?

Saw a photo ages ago of the Bradley ADATS prototype, from memory there was a gun installed in the turret as well. (or not)

That TUA conversion might look pretty cool on a TPz 1 Fuchs or SpPz2 Luchs....

That would definitely look good on the Fuchs.  :)

I think the problem is that the links in the thread are of the form "http://www.www-legend.co.kr/" rather than "http://www-legend.co.kr/".   "http://www.www-legend.co.kr/" doesn't work, obviously.

More ADATS info. Looks like we are getting a decal sheet, nice.

Some interesting things I hadn't noticed on ADATs before.  What are the covers over the engine cooling vents for?  Prevent hot rocket exhaust gases?  Are they normally open?  And what is the little circular vent thingie on the left hand fold up/down plate for?
Title: Re: Legend
Post by: Gingie on June 09, 2014, 09:52:12 AM
There's no cover on the vents, I think its just a really fine PE mesh. The engine exhaust is routed lower to lessen heat shimmer etc when sighting over that area.

The grate on the reload platform is the air intake for the vehicle ventilation system.

Yeah, I guess that was what the little vent on the right hand side was for.  I would have just used the Israeli exhaust extension.  ;)

OK, that makes sense.  I assume it went through some sort of NBC filter?

here's some pics of my Legend ADATS fresh from the box:

These photos do not show all the parts. They are meant to be a representation of what's included and to showcase the detail and the casting style of Legend.

Box Art:

Left side Turret:

Right side:

Underside of front plate. I include this photo to show the robust pour plugs used. You are going to want a saw & dremel for these. Removing them will add some time to the build, but you won't waste any time trying to straighten warped parts:

Turbine Power Plant Unit, Radar, lights, Smoke grenade launchers, Electo-Optical Module, Observer Sight Chair Cover, and Missile end cap:

Laser module, OS Chair mount bracket, AMU,
(http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2922/14498180579_40c902ae7d_o.jpg)
Hull sides - these allow you to build the ADATS with the missile loading platform in the raised position.

Hull roof underside. What I like about this is the long side pour plugs look like they are far enough inboard so the won't have to be removed:

Missile Yoke. This part is less than 1-inch long. Amazing.

Yoke, Missile tubes, end caps:

External Fuel Tanks (wonder if Legend will release these as a separate item?)

Missile Loading Platforms and front/side hull panels.

Various struts to support the platform, EO Module bracket, wind sensor, rear loading platform:

In what I believe is a first for Legend, they have included a decal sheet. This is great, as the ADATS has some unique markings that would be difficult to reproduce otherwise. Markings are for 11C, an ADATS from "A" Troop, 119 Bty, 4th Air Defence Regt.

And for a first effort at printing decals, check out the crispness...the red hand warning placard is only 3/16" wide and you can still read it in English ou en francias.

A single sheet of etch and some brass wire:

4-page full colour instruction sheet. Intermediate modelling skills required.

Graeme, does the resin have a strong odor?  The last couple of Legend items that I purchased were still out-gassing a very strong chemical smell.

Jeff - no, just the usual faint odour. I know of what you speak though - I could smell the M-113 TUA through the shrink wrap. I juts let it air out for a week.

I know what you mean re the smell - first Legend kit/conversion I got had me thinking someone had spilt something in there.
