Ford...Online 3D Printed Model Car Shop
« on: June 13, 2015, 03:18:17 AM »
Hi folks, some news I read yesterday:

Ford Launches Online 3D Printed Model Car Shop – Print Your Favorite Ford Car or Truck Today

The list of models available is here.

These models are printed at 1/32 scale (close enough to 1/35 if you want a diorama etc) in plastic and are priced at $39.00. However, if you own a 3D printer yourself, or have access to one, you can purchase the 3D design files for a measly $4.99 and rescale accordingly.

Do they say how many years back their files go?  There are some older Fords in my history I'd love to get models of.

And that is the sound of my job ending. I would be remiss to not point out that a couple of those are available in plastic kits at much lower prices, but realistically, if a person can sit at home and order the model they want, that's the end of the mass marketed model kit industry as we know it today. I lost my previous reatail minion job due to digital imaging, and this will most likely follow as well.

Oh well, cool stuff, and if my buggy whip manufacturing business doesn't fail either, I'll still be in cash to buy some!

They aren't kits, they don't have interiors or even windows plus it's only that handful of current vehicles.
Basically what you get is a solid lump of PLA plastic that looks like the vehicle.

True, they are not kits.  But if you are after a model of a Ford vehicle that you cannot get any other way (except possibly scratch building) than this may be an option.  As I stated above, this may also be of use for some dioramas.

Have a look at the second link in my initial post. Remember that there are 4 pages...

Those are 3D graphic models for games, ads etc., not for 3d printing.

That'll be an expensive proposition as most of those models are owned by their creators,
and converting them to a printable file would be a lot of work and $$$.
