Brian da Basher bashes one out
« on: February 04, 2020, 11:51:12 PM »
A bagged 1/72 Hawker hunter showed up the other day courtesy of my friend the hamsterman (thanks a million, Bill!)

Looks like a fine kit!

That's hard to make out. I better unpack it...

Everything i need is there except decals.

And instructions, but we don't really need those do we?

More to follow...

Not quite 90 minutes in but enough time for the first update.

One of the gear doors was missing so I had to cut a replacement from card. The intakes are in and once all this sets, I should be ready to do some serious assembly.

Here's a small update. I added a tailpipe made from a bit of drinking straw.

It looks a bit rough now, but I think paint will help.

Not quite four hours in already and time for another update. It's starting to look like an airplane.

I still need to sort out some decals...

The first bit of paint is on the Hunter.

Now to finally figure out those decals...

I got the canopy on and the framing painted.

Originally I'd planned on a two color camo scheme but I'm now not sure.

Decisions, decisions...

11 hours or so in now and of course, this Hunter needed another color on top.

I finished the burner can too.

Once this dries, on to getting the decals on!

Finished up 10:04AM EST, less than 24 hours after start.

USAF Hawker Hunter from the 16th Tactical Fighter Wing "Bull Sharks".

These aircraft were received from RAF stock as lend-lease.

They were used as point-defense interceptors protecting vital CONUS targets from sneak bomber attack.

These aircraft were given new avionics and re-armed with U.S.-made Armalite aero auto-cannons.

They achieved a 10:1 kill ratio and served with distinction throughout the Second Atomic War.

USAF pilots appreciated flying a fast, cutting-edge fighter. Unfortunately, the aircraft in the next conflict would be somewhat less advanced.

Nothing remains of the USAF Hunters today and documentary evidence is sparse due to the vast destruction caused by nuclear combat.

The so-called "experts" refuse to believe Hawker Hunters ever flew with the USAF and insist the whole story is just fallout from the uncertainty of the time.

I'd like to thank Bill for his kindness in sending me the kit, ed for his encouragement and the IT dept. at work who provided the unexpected time off that made this possible.

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.
