Title: Chuck's Aircraft Profiles
Post by: ChuckAnderson on February 17, 2012, 06:55:43 AM
Hi Everyone!

This is my first aircraft profile for this Forum.

Presented here is a profile of a Mitsubishi Ki-109 heavy fighter, (which was derived from the Ki-67 Hiryu), in the colours and markings of the Argentine NAVY, in the WW2-era.

For a bit of "backstory", this is one of forty (40) examples of this aircraft given to Argentina by the Empire of Japan, as an incentive for their government to at least remain sympathetic to the Axis Powers during the war.

The Argentine NAVY used these aircraft in a maritime-strike fighter role, including missions to the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands.

Hi Bill!

The source of the original profile line drawing is Japanese Aircraft of the Pacific War, p.189, Author: Rene Francillon.

It's sure nice to have such an excellent place to post aircraft profiles again!!

Hi Everyone!

Airspeed A.S.39 Fleet Shadower

Fifty (50) of these aircraft were supplied by Great Britain to the Soviet Air Force during the Great Patriotic War (WW2).

These were used to great effect by the famous "Night Witches", in their nightly raids on German troop positions, making things "very unpleasant" for the invaders.

Hi, Chuck!

Obviously the F4U FTB's are using inline engines, so would they need the big round front of the aircraft?

I'd suggest slimming down the top of the nose (gives the pilot a better view for carrier op's) & put a radiator further back under the prop.

Test beds could be modified from the firewall forward, after all the rear has already been extensively modified for the engine, anyway. So, why not go whole hog?

Hi Old Wombat!

That's a GREAT point you made!  I completely overlooked it at the time!!!  I guess I was too involved keeping the "Corsair look" in my drawings and made this bumbling error!  Thanks for pointing it out!!!

Wouldn't call it a "bumbling error", possibly an "oversight" or a "missed opportunity", or even "not where I was going with this". ;)

Love the FTB Mustangs, always have had a soft spot for the wierdness of an engine in the middle!

One thing, your RNZAF Mustang is wearing British Pacific Fleet roundels, rather than WW2 RNZAF ones.

I like the idea of a Greyhound sporting jet engines.  Would be even better if the engines could be mounted so that the airflow is over the top of the wing like the Boeing YC-14 proposal for the Advanced Medium STOL Transport program (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_YC-14) or the Antonov An-72 (NATO reporting name: Coaler) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonov_An-72).

Hi Everybody!

Grumman C-2J "Jet Greyhound"
(Northrop Grumman Greyhound 21)
Mexican NATIONAL GUARD
Tactical Jet Transport

Backstory:  The Mexican NATIONAL GUARD is also getting a group of 10 C-2J "Jet Greyhounds" (more properly called Northrop Grumman Greyhound 21's.)  They will use them for the rapid airlift of Mexican National Guard personnel and resources to active sites within the country fighting the drug cartels and other criminal organizations, to hit them hard, fast and in great force, (independent of the armed forces.)  A Mexican National Guard Chief Inspector will head the aviation unit.  (To be distinct from the Mexican armed forces, the Mexican National Guard has police ranks and organization.)  Mexican National Guard aircraft are to be well-marked and distinctive from aircraft of the armed forces.  The Mexican National Guard is also receiving heavy weapons to counter the sometimes superior firepower of the drug cartels and other criminal organizations.  Because of priorities, the Mexican National Guard may get their 10 C-2J "Jet Greyhounds" before the Mexican Navy.
