Hi Everyone
This is my first Nautilus, based on the Pegasus Hobbies kit.
But since I did not like some of the kit "features", I modified it a little bit. I hope you donīt mind.
Please find below some pictures:
First attempt:
Didnīt like the result, so proceeded with some more trials until I found the final one:
Wit the side windows "problem" solved, it was time to tackle another "issue":
Third modification was the label. Nautilus is like Facebook: no need for the "THE" :)
Definitely more elegant and international!
By the way, I am also not using the Giant Squid. I am using a rock instead:
With the exterior pretty much sorted out, It is time to start working on the interior decoration...
-
Love the mods so far. this is going to be very cool!
ps how big is the actual model btw?
cheers
Brent

settling in for this.. love your builds

I can see another Sobral Success in the making, here.
I'll be watching! ;)

As always, very interesting and impressive !!! Well worth watching ..
-
I hope you donīt mind.
Us mind? ;D
-
Looking good and very fitting iwth Verne's description of her.

Hi guys
Thansk for the feedback!
The model is approx. 40cm long (roughly 16 inches) of pure fun :)
As for the giant squid, I am planning to use in another related project, so nothing is lost!
Just twice the fun for the same money.
And I found out another thing I did not like in the kit: The chains:
So it was time to some chemistry:
And some more drilling:
And "voilá" :)
No, still not quite right. Still needs a final touch!
Now, I am happy :)
Thanks for watching!
-
Thnx matey, 40cm is a good size to work with, I'm thinking victorian/pulp spaceship thingy ......
Nice job on the chains, first time I've seen Blackenit at work although I've heard of it before.
Might be worth a try .......
cheers
Brent

The new chains look great! :) Although the kit's chains look pretty decent for an injection-moulded kit.
-
Swapping out the chains was a good call. With that level of detail, it sure looks like you're well on the way to building a fantastic Nautilus!

Thanks for the comments!
And here are some pics of the interior "re-decoration" and some of the charaters involved in ths story:

I hope you like it.
Dont be too harsh on the figures. They are really tiny and hard to paint :)
Surely that opened hatch must mean some business, so now it is time to plan the outside activities and related figurants!
To be continued...
-
Intriguing! What is going on, I wonder? ::)
:)
Guy
-
A lot is going on down under... the sub :)
And now is time for the the rest of the "players" to show up :)
First thoughts...
Diving suit completed.
Inserted in the scene, just to see the effect.
I liked it, so I proceeded with the rest of the crew...
With the crew problem solved, is time to get back to the ship:
The general assembly is pretty much done:
The legend is also finished.
Before
(http://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz158/AARSOBRAL/Nautilus/peg-065.jpg)
After
(http://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz158/AARSOBRAL/Nautilus/peg-066.jpg)
With some primary color applied on the beast:
But now is time to pause a little bit and wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!!
-
This is a beautiful build. If those figures are 1/144, the painting is just unbelievable. Great skin colors, shade variations and nice and flat finish. I wish I could get that shadowing and depth in 1/35!
-
Looking great.
-
That is looking terrific - A Happy Christmas to you and yours!
-
I really like the divers!
Happiest of holidays to you & yours, Antonio.

Slendid all around. Looks the part :)
Name plate, chain, figures, interior mods, and exterior color accents are cool touches 8)

That looks superb - very well done indeed! :) :-*
-
Damn, that's beautiful, and beautifully done.
-
Very nice!
-
Excellent build and first rate finish, love the weathering!! 8) 8)
-
It's really impresive. Could you tell what you used for paint and weathering? What paints and techniques?
-
Beautiful. Outstanding workmanship.

Fantastic job! I love the subject and the execution is wonderful!
Cheers,

I am speechless, you work, as always, astounds!

:-* :-* :-*
Pure inspiration ..........

Hi
Thanks for the nice words and comments.
Please feel free to "steal" anything you like :)
As for the painting and weathering involved, it was faily straightforward:
The base color was an simple mixture of Tamiya Acrylics: XF-25 Light Sea Grey with some XF-50 Field Blue (just a tiny little bit).
Everything applied with an airbrush, with the center of the pannels "lightened" with some XF-2 White added to the previous mixture.
The global weathering and the final hue variations and "grime and rust" on the panels and bolts were done with Winsor & Newton oils.
3 or 4 different kinds of "yellows & browns": burnt sienna, burnt umber, raw umber and Naples yellow...
To finish, a coat of Vallejo acrylic mat varnish all over the scene.
I guess this summarizes pretty much the whole thing :)
Whishes of an excellent 2014 to you all!

Just awesome work Antonio.. that is one of the best renditions of that I have seen.
Everything on that just works.

I think "astoundingly awesome" is something of an understatement, but I'll go with it anyway...
Seriously, astoundingly awesome job, Antonio! 8)

Antonio
I've seen this just now...
I am astonished by your work...
The WIP thread and the kit itself together are a sort of inspirational source.
Great Work !
