A few months ago I found a cheap Arrow online and, despite it being the original awful Hobbycraft kit, I wanted to build one. Fast forward to last week where I remembered I had the kit and decided to actually build it. This appealed:
Avro Arrow F.2 - No.111 Squadron, RAF Fighter Command, 1967

and, as luck would have it, I had a Fujimi Phantom sheet that had very similar marks on it! So here we are!

And now she's on the shelf with the other whifs, mostly from this year:

I would like to arm it but couldn't find any pylons. One day.
Enjoy 8)

Sorry my favourite from your great collection is not the new Arrow but the black & sexy Twin-Mustang (whif in what direction?). Congratulations for this great collection!
-
I'm sorry Tophe, I realised they aren't all whifs - the Twin Mustang is out of the box so I could have one :) although it may get hacked in the near future...

The Arrow really suits that scheme, it just looks 'right'. Mind you, I have yet to see many things that don't suit wraparound green and gray.
It does make me want to build a modernised Arrow though... is there a 1/48 one available, I wonder... hmm...

That is so nice Zac. Painted with a F.1 hairy brush?
Sent you a PM re: pylons.
-
Very nice, reminds me that I have an incomplete Arrow in the stash that now has to survive another move.

Very nice Zak, looks really good.
I did one of mine with some pylons, but just for fuel tanks as the Arrow has a large weapons bay. I scratch built the pylons and the weapons bay was done from drawings found in the Arrow book

Nicely done, kit! I had a feeling there was a bay but Hobbycraft's lines guy must have taken the day off as I couldn't see it.
Combined with the actuator humps being on the wrong side of the wing (even though the painting instructions had it right?!) I had a piece left over, too - I could see where it went, I could see in the instructions where it should've gone. What a weird model. The stencils and walkway stripes (which don't fit the panel lines!) are from the kit, the national and squadron markings are all from last year's reboxing of the Fujimi 1/72 Phantom FG.1.
Paint is Tamiya acrylics by brush - Sky Grey under, RAF Ocean Grey and Raf Dark Green 2 uppers, Humbrol Gloss Kote, decals, Humbrol Matt Cote.

Sharp as a tack, Zac!
I especially like your paintwork which is superb on the burner cans!

Nicely done Zac. The HobbyCraft Canada kit is a pig, I've built over 30 of them. Ugh.
That's the highly collectable (not) Series 1 Arrow. They fixed the actuator bumps on the second series, and the third series was actually a completely new molding. Those are actually the rarer ones, as HobbyCraft Canada fell down shortly afterwards. Somewhere in China, both sets of molds exist. The earlier ones were released by Kitech after HobbyCraft lost the rights to them (they'd stopped making payments and most of the good kits wound up under the Academy label)
The lines for the weapons bay on the first series kits exist solely on the bottom of the fuselage, with no trace of them along the fuselage.
So, despite all the failings, you did a fine job!

Nice build of a tough kit, 'zac :)

Oh yeah! Go for it :)

I am loving these, "see this profile? Heres a model!!" builds you are showing us!! I think all of us have profiles we want to replicate but don't always get around to, and its wonderful seeing these put into plastic :) :)
-
There are a few kits I have that I've lost interest in or forgotten the original plan, so profiles are an immense help clearing the stash! :) You're very kind.
Brian - Tamiya Flat Black base with thinned Titanium Silver. It could be better but it does the job!
Alvis - coming from such a prolific Arrowphile, that's high praise! Should I have the good fortune to come across the 3.0 version I'd love to build it.
