Title: Mikro-Mir models
Post by: Weaver on January 17, 2015, 09:53:32 PM
Here's a real left-field one from Micro-Mir: the Hunley man-powered submarine used in the American Civil War:

More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._L._Hunley_(submarine) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._L._Hunley_(submarine)) (If you're remotely claustrophobic, this is a horror story up there with the best of them...)

Coming soon: 1/72 Sud-Ouest SO.9050 Trident

Wikipedia: The SNCASO SO.9000 Trident was a French mixed-power interceptor aircraft of the 1950s. Capable of supersonic flight, the project was cancelled in July 1957 after only 12 examples had been built. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SNCASO_Trident)

They also have this coming:

Might be interesting to rescale this to 1/48 as a modern Cargo/Logistics UAV.

7 engines, Bill!

And in 1/72: MikroMir Britmodeller posts with sprues, etc. (https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235019710-172-kalinin-k-7-by-mikromir-3d-rendersspruesbox-art-release-in-2019/page/2/)

Yes, 7 engines - people sometimes miss the pusher one:

This is a kit release and that is the box art that I posted earlier.  Will be in 1/72 as Frank said.  Thus the kit will be ~39cm long,  and with a wingspan of ~74cm.

In civil transport configuration, the K-7 would have had a capacity for 120 passengers and 7,000 kg (15,000 lb) of mail. As a troop transport it would have had capacity for 112 fully equipped paratroopers. In bomber configuration it would have been armed with 8 x 20mm autocannons, 8 x 7.62mm machine guns and up to 9,600 kg (21,200 lb) of bombs.

Looks like it needs more power.  A whiff with a larger engine would seem simple and practical.

Or two engines, one at the front of each fuselage section.

For its era (first flew) it wasn't a bad performer: Capacity: 12 people, Max Speed: 135km/h Cruise Speed: 115km/h Ceiling: 2,000m Range: 850km all from a single 110hp M-11 radial.  I could easily see this as a form of airborne assault platform instead of gliders.

I had it in resin in 1/72 - it would have made a good weapon (it had sharp edges, pointy end and it was a solid chunk). Also have it in 1/350. Plus the Russian copy with ramjets.

The 1/350 Keldysh model was made by our own Hamza. Here's my "build" (other than finishing and painting) (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=5426.msg142596#msg142596)

Here are his two Sanger designs on Shapeways:
The model on Shapeways (https://www.shapeways.com/product/S383LK3NP/1-350-keldysh-bomber?optionId=64435679)
Saenger Antipodal Bomber (https://www.shapeways.com/product/QG4XAYYS9/1-350-sanger-silbervogel-amerika-bomber?optionId=64435644&li=ostatus)

I'll have to find a picture of the giant resin 1/72 weapon.

Apparently, it was to get 12 turboprops and four jets --- although the turboprops were only about 1900 hp. IMHO, that would be more underpowered than the Hughes HK-1

I want it in 1/72 as well, but over the last five years I've been transitioning to 1/48 for my Kiwi warbird models so this is very exciting news. We've had three, and the third - currently the sole airworthy example - is based at my local airport so I'm hoping for a boxing with Vampire verticals and Pinocchio nose....

It is, formerly J-1634 and then HB-RVA on their civil register. There's a great article on John and his Venom by a talented young guy* here (https://www.nzherald.co.nz/whanganui-chronicle/news/boyhood-dream-takes-off/MB2CP4PWURDZ3ATIHGCD3BNOKI/)

We leased around 45 for Malaya but unfortunately they never made it here. Two of the three Kiwi warbird Venoms wore/wear the scheme of WE434 from that bunch.

Found this on their Facebook page. No other information but I hope they make it.
Oh, it's 1/72.  >:D

Sharkit had made one. But long OOP.
There is a brief write-up on it in French Secret Projects Volume 1, pages 191-192.

If this kit does get made, I would add three smaller missiles mounted on the engine nacelles.

Is that labelled a J4M1?  It looks like it could also be a Ki-98.

They do look similar; at least parts for the Ki-98 were under construction at the end of the war. The Meng Ki-98 was a fun kit to build. Too bad it's long OOP. It's unlikely this Mikro Mir kit will be as enjoyable.

That might have been Whirlybirds Chris, they got most of the Project X and Maintrack Models moulds.   I remember a plan I had for the DH.108, a proof of concept DH Vixen smaller scale FTB. I think this will be a go now as I also wanted to build an RW DH.108. An article in Air-Britain's AeroMilitaria was about the RN using Vampires (could have been Venoms) to train the ground crews on carrier handling of the Sea Vixen, could be something alone the same lines.

Here is a Scott Van Aken review: https://modelingmadness.com/scott/axis/luft/ju/ju388.htm (https://modelingmadness.com/scott/axis/luft/ju/ju388.htm)

Overall, this is not a bad kit. Sure, it takes work to build, but that is the nature of the beast. However, it doesn't take that much extra, and anyone who considers themselves to be an intermediate modeler should be able to build it without any major traumas. It isn't a shake and bake Tamigawa kit nor is it a subject I would expect to see from them. The overall result is very pleasing and well worth the effort put into it.

Jan Forsgren over at Hyperscale: http://hsfeatures.com/features04/ju388ljf_1.htm (http://hsfeatures.com/features04/ju388ljf_1.htm)

I can accept a kit that is a challenge, and this one is. It’s a pity SH got the gear bays wrong, but still I recommend buying it until the ultimate 388 comes along.

I have a few MikroMir kits and they cover unusual subjects, but they can be a pain to build. I don't mind a difficult assembly - especially if it's a scratchbuilt or a major kitbash - but if I'm paying a lot of money for a kit, I want it to be at least a somewhat enjoyable build. I'll let someone else build and review MikroMir kits now, before buying. Look at the issues Kit had with theirAW.52 (https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=48941) over at Whatif.

Idea #1:Stratojet! B-47ish canopy, twin-engine nacelle under the wings, Vulcan in the tail, SAC markings.

Idea #2: Blackbird! The Bounder's canopy has something SR-71ish about it. Overall black, red markings, D-21 drone.

Idea #3: Hustler! Four podded engines on a delta wing? That's a B-58, right? So... Hustler-style pod and markings
