Interestingly - the tilt-rotor V-tail was on Daily Planet last night (Discovery Channel Canada)

That was the PR image of the S-97, the real one was recently pcitured in AW&ST and isn't quite as aesthetic but it does look better than the intermediate steps (BdB would've loved the one with the spatted tail wheel). I know several folks on the V-280 and I've worked on Bell's part of the MQ-8C. A most interesting article.

some interesting concepts there. A pity there is nothing like the Stopped Rotor X-50 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_X-50_Dragonfly) - I have long hoped this would be made to work.

Really cool stuff all around everyone :) :) :)

Came across this the other day - seems an interesting idea. Anyone else done a large helo with a Fenestron rotor ??
The MD-500 NOTAR is probably a one-off idea as a guy I spoke to (flew Bell-47, JetRanger, SuperPuma & S61N) says it was the most sluggish turning response he ever experienced.

According to Airbus it doesn't work as well for large helicopters. In the mid-late 1970s they tried with a SA 330 Puma medium lift helicopter - see here (https://www.facebook.com/AirbusHelicopters/videos/694418057348459/?hc_ref=ARTAGWQQfTudFLEVKsr5nAm5JWE9J_Q3SkUWKY0jhVSfX761KAMk90yHfPmIieuLrdA)
