Amazing what you can get with cereals - Oil Rig
« on: September 12, 2014, 06:03:46 PM »
The Sea Quest was a semi-submersible drilling rig which discovered the UK's first North Sea oil on 14 September 1969 in the Arbroath Field. She also discovered the first giant oil field named Forties on 7 October 1970.

I do not know the manufacturer of this kit but it was produced as a promotional item for Rice Krispies. It measures 5.5 inches along each side and the platform is 5 inches high. I followed the painting instructions but changed the colour of the helicopter deck:

A fun little build!

that looks stunning Dave, I recall building my Kellogs brand 'sea quest' rig many years ago, later I set it in a seascape adding a 700 scale helicopter on the helideck with a Bear escorted by two Phantoms sitting on thin rods flying overhead  8)

Kellogs produced a number of injection moulded kits during the 70's, ones I recall were SRN.4 hovercraft, 1/144 Shearwater Hydrofoil, DH.88 Comet Racer (way better than the Airfix one at the time !)  :D

cheers, Joe

Thanks, Joe.

I can just imagine a couple of Phantoms checking out a Bear checking out the oil rig!
