Amiot 143 Short and Vertical Take-Off capable
« on: September 23, 2017, 05:03:56 PM »
Hi All,

I just discovered the Retro Futuristic GB ! So (this time) I will be honest : my built has been started in 2014 and finished it in june 2017. Anyway, I think it matches with the idea of this GB.

SO !

I started using the 1/72 SMER box of the Amiot 143

I always found this plane "dreadfully beautifull". By the way, it is very big (compared to a die-cast Mirage 2000)

The first step is the modify the nose. Before :

Processing :

After :

The second chapter is about the wings... verrrrry large wings

 Well... They used to be!

The next step is quite difficult to explain (in english I mean). So I will let you discover the little modifications I did, on the following photos :

Voila!

Hum... Sorry... Something is missing at the end of the wings. To enhance them, I will swap to "recycle mode"

Voila! (OK, I already said that)

Chapter 3 : Is there a pilot in this... thing?

The answer is yes. The idea is to modify the existing parts (as I did from the beginning in fact...). At the end, it have to look like something like that

Step zero: the friends

Step one: the turret

Step two: the canopy

Ooops! I forgot to talk about the propellers. They come from an 1/48 Tamiya kit. This extra size matches the STOL capabilities (hope so!)

Chapter 4: coloring the... thing

The colors are clearly inspired by the french scheme used during the second world war:

I just kept the US Dark grey (humbrol 125) and leather (humbrol 62):

Chapter 5: Vive la France!!!!!!! Hum... Sorry. I mean "markings"

The markings are made off roundels, number (my birthday in fact)

and something found in my "spare parts" box

Yes, it is an F-22

Chapter 6: Guns and various deadly stuff

Whatever you may thing, this... "thing" is (supposed) to be highly dangerous... and it is!

Oh? A 37mm gun! Cooooool, isn't it?

The idea is to look like the combat helicopter Tigre

The turret uses... what is provided in the box

Chapter 7: This is the end...

Nothing left to glue? Nothing left to paint? So... My Amiot S/VTOL is finished. I hope you enjoyed this sum-up and the... "thing" I built

An ingenious and beautifully executed build. I've always liked the Inter-War French monstrosities like the Amiot 143...I can't remember if I posted my own "Rayon D'Mort" here or not...

Sletch,

Love this build! Its wonderful creative and it certainly fits the Group Build theme. However, as it was started and finished before the Group Build started it will not be eligible for voting. Leaving the thread here for everyone to enjoy and appreciate.

Good evening all!

An ingenious and beautifully executed build. I've always liked the Inter-War French monstrosities like the Amiot 143...
=> "French monstrosisities" matches very well with this Amiot!

I can't remember if I posted my own "Rayon D'Mort" here or not...
=> I remember well your "rayon d'mort". I saw it during the "Vive la France GB" on WIF modeller. Nice looking weapon  8)

No worry taiidantomcat, I was prepared to that.  Next time, I will (try) to be on time! By the way, thank you for leaving my post here

Definitely the best use of an Amiot 143 I've seen in a while.

Welcome to BtS, sletch, I look forward to seeing more of your work.
