CyberModeler has posted several images showing the kit contents in the Kitty Hawk Models 1/48th scale F-35B Lightning II.  Additional images I should be available as soon as the kits are shipped and made available on the store shelves until then we will have to get by with this latest tease from Michael Benolkin.  Not sure if Michael took images of the kit or the images were provided by Kitty Hawk Models.

Click on image or html above or the image below to see the rest of the images at CyberModeler

Hard to tell from these photos just how pronounced it is, but I am a tad concerned that the panel lines might be a bit overdone on this kit.  It almost has a crude toy like appearance...or am I just being too harsh?

Do you mean the slightly raised sections on the surfaces? What they called "boiler plating" on the 1/48 Hasegawa F-22? Hasgawa caught a lot of flak for that, even though it's not that exaggerated (LINK  <-- Warning! BIG pic!) under certain lighting conditions.

I suppose the shiny plastic adds to that effect and on the real deal, painted and flat-coated, it won't look all that bad. As turned out to be the case in Hasegawa's Raptor.
Cheers,
Moritz

IMHO most kits look toy like when unpainted. Probably a different story with some painting and weathering as Moritz has said... Sure hope anyway!

As I know from personal experience, it's not a good idea to form an opinion of the surface detailing
of a model based on photos.
When the first sprue shots of the 1/72 ICM He 70G appeared online I was very skeptical of their reproduction
of the plywood skinning on the wings. It looked terrible and extremely heavy-handed in the photos. Boy
was I wrong, in real-life the surface texture is beautiful and very subtle.

Let the feeding frenzy begin.

I found this at the ARC forums this afternoon.  The Kitty Hawk F-35 kit is now available on eBay through a seller known as hkdragon01.

Link: Kitty Hawk F-35B Lightning II #80102 - NEW

The catch is that the kit will not be available until the second week in September.

I might wait a little bit...since I will probably be overseas again when said kit would arrive...you know what that might mean!

Ok, I collected two of the F-35B kits today.  At first glance they appear well done.  The external panel detailing is actually quite fine and nowhere near as extreme as the early photos indicated.  Haven't done any dry fit ups just yet so I can't say how well the fitting will be.  Weapons look a little crude to my eye, though that is hardly of major concern.  I am disappointed there is no gunpod though I am sure there will be a resin one or similar released shortly.  Decals look good and already provide some whiff (currently) options.

Now, as to the important question:  what are my plans for this pair?  Well one is definitely going to be RAN FAA...possibly in a high viz tail scheme.  The other?  Not sure, though I am toying with either Israeli or RNZAF or RAF ( though in green scheme) or even a UCAV...

The F-35A picture is interesting, especially since they show the DAS ports blanked out as they are on the early prototypes rather than what production aircraft, and the later prototypes, have.  'Twill be interesting to see just what the kits actually have.

More Mirage F.1 images here:  http://www.themodellingnews.com/2012/10/kittyhawk-to-release-f-35a-version.html

IRIS-T on a Mirage F.1?  ??? The only nation that operates both the F.1 and IRIS-T is Spain, but I haven't read anything about an integration of the IRIS-T on their Mirages.

I hope they'll scale this one down to 1/72. I'd buy a dozen!  :)
