Wow!

I really like the "new nose" on these Modern Mi-17s. Good Hips, pretty nose...  ;)

1/48 scale kit:
Remove the tail boom, remove the whole rotor assembly.
Put a 1/35th scale frame underneath with suitable off road wheels/tires, 1/35 scale interior.
And one has some alternatively styled 1/35 scale military soft skin off roader.
Outfit to match Your Intended Purpose of the vehicle.

Somewhere, I've seen a Real World, non-scaleorama version of Daryl's idea ... a plucked Mi-8 fuselage sitting on a Russian bus or truck chassis. Danged if I can find it now though  :P

I have seen the one in Afghanistan too but can't find the photo.  The best I can offer is this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Afghanistan-Hybrid-of-Russian-Truck-GAZ-66-and-Helicopter-Mi-8-Other-Articles-/231352659406) build though.

That's the one  ;D  A pity they didn't keep the original windscreen.

Instead of the 1/48 kit (given there is no 1/48 Mi-8...yet!!), may I suggest the following 1/35 kits:

+ one of these:

The EE Gaz-66 = the Revell Gaz-66 (albeit with better instructions) and can be obtained with careful shopping for under $15 US. The EE kit's instructions are a blurry mess, but the truck is buildable, with some care. The Trumpeter kit is much nicer, but also more expensive.

None of those are available yet Zac - trust me, I have been watching them intently.

To be exact, there are also these:

Which may be available, though they are rarer than Hen's teeth!

I went with the Mi-8/GAZ 66 combo for my take on the RVski as well.
