Zombie M-ATV - Done !
« on: December 21, 2023, 01:03:48 PM »
Broken through the mojo drain and working on another Post Apoc type model
I picked up the Panda 1/35 Oshkosh M-ATV very cheap, no instructions and have toiled through getting it together. Think Bronco parts breakdown with some Mach2 Sprue gates and Novo Flash.
Ok.. maybe a bit of an over exaggeration but not too far off. It was not a trouble free build. This is to all intents just an out of the box build, with a bit of a mod around a crumpled front fender.
Pretty interesting Vehicle though.
So here we are, the doors are still off awaiting later fixing as they will all in the open position

So the idea is this M-ATV has crashed into a wall, out of ammo and is for all intents now abandoned and surrounded by Zombies.

More Zombie figures are coming, hoping to have at least 10 to give the impression of a moving horde past this vehicle, with one survivor hiding underneath the vehicle. Testing the half zombie to see if it would work being trapped between the vehicle and the wall

Unsurprisingly, I have most, if not all, of those zombies.

To show it's out of ammo you're going to need a lot of spent rounds floating around in (&, maybe, around) the M-ATV.

Looking really good!  8)

throw the doors away off & replace with rebar mesh that the zombies have ripped open.  I guess zombies can still walk around with something big speared thru them ???

Team, lots of rain here, so lots of work in the workshop.
moving onto the diorama part
Streetscape is getting built up

The Factory wall that the M-ATv is smashed into

First pass on the zombies. Not entirely happy, a couple might get a rerun

I do have more, varied Zombies coming, thanks to Loot Studios. These are being printed by a buddy, so I will get them sometime near the end of the month

Incidentely, a lot of my images will drop off the world, my many years having my own webspace is coming to an end. There is just no point anymore. So far I plan to try Dropbox (All these images are dropbox hosted)

The Zombies look good, especially Zombie Freddie Mercury.

What are you using for the street itself? Looks like cardboard, but it has a good texture.

As for your web page - you should copy all the images to your Dropbox account for future reference.

Thanks Frank

Probably not going to use that figure, the pose is quite absurd. Inspired by the scene from World War Z I would think. See how it looks once I get more and it looks more "herd" like.

Yes, nearly all cardboard, just needs some careful handling in the painting stage to not undo it all.

Already downloaded all the images, for re-use. Even the free Dropbox account has enough space for all those as it stands. But even a paid account is cheaper than the Hosting I was using.

Moving ahead, sort of impressed myself, as far as mojo

First up, some more stuff. The Soldier figures and some brass .50 Cal boxes

much more convincing empty boxes. A bit dicky to get together with some teensy weensy folds, but so far really worth the effort. Ok, I did not even try the ridiculously flimsy and largely impractical lid hinge part of the assembly sequence.

overall layout of the current bits, using some miniart Trash cans, Royal Models Street lamp and the other stuff you have already seen.
The building has a layer of an outdoor type filler over the foam to give a reasonably acceptable concrete finish, if a bit chunky to scale.

As I hoped one of the figures from the US Modern Set, just arrived, fits the bill for a trooper trapped underneath the vehicle by all the zombies

Nice FreddOmbie

Quick update on the base work, which is somehow, much to even my surprise, steaming ahead

Still some tidy ups and toning down to do, but getting into the zone

How the vehicle is situated as far as impacts etc etc.

Now all you need is to have the half-zombie figure crawling up, unnoticed, behind the guy hiding under the M-ATV. ;)

Small update, some figure painting.

The newer 3D printed figures. Clearly some touch ups and repaint needed on all these, where stuff does not work. Photos never lie

The horde so far

Should have about 4 more of the 3d Printed figures still being printed, I have asked for 2 x of each, so maybe some cut and mod amongst them
use a couple of the Masterbox figures and should end up with about 12-15 Zombies, which hopefully will be enough to set he scene.

You're doing a great job on those Z's, Brian!

However, there seems to be quite a big scale difference between the new zombies & the old, & the sk8r grl looks too "old" compared to the others.

No criticism, just observation, as the girl in the bikini top is a good head-&-shoulders taller than the other (MAiM?) figures.

It is a scaling thing.
You mean Gwendoline Christie  ;D  Yes bit bigger. That figure is a scale down of a 100mm figure found on thingiverse.
The Loot figures are a variable scale type arrangement from 28mm to 75mm as the standard .STL files. Once you start scaling using the 3D software things get a bit trickier.
As I said before the Loot figures are a lot more whimisical as far as design as they are more gaming orientated, not so "serious and human" as the Royal Models Figures. Only have a couple of the Maim types and neither of them is in the picture.

The pack I have purchased
https://app.lootstudios.com/bundle/z-outbreak-survivors/

They really do have some interesting subjects and this kind of subscription model is getting to be the way of things in this space.

.... girl in the bikini top is a good head-&-shoulders taller than the other (MAiM?) figures.

and is being rescaled to a more suitable size. This is where the 3D resin printing really shines, being able to edit files.

So here we go for an update.
Some more work to go on set dressing, like newspapers and other rubbish dead fall, maybe a few weeds without going full I am Legend overgrown, this is more during the earlier parts of an outbreak.
Some of the Zeds are placeholders, this was more about getting number to see if the scene sells itself. I am expecting to have maybe 10 more Zeds in there

Mr halfie might move yet, to appearing from under the busted down door an around the front wheel.

Nursie will probably get a repaint as well. The whole 1950's/60's white nurse get up is a bit out of time frame, except if it was a Halloween outfit. Skater Waitress from a retro restaurant, might work though, but like Mr Dancing Zombie, probably will not make the cut and final placement

Looks good, but they seem too organized, like they're going to a parade. Maybe a couple should be moving to one side or the other, or maybe even in the opposite direction.  Big Sexy Dead Lady really stands out, although I recognize the mail lady zombie from the Masterbox set!

All good observations, this is still early days with this set out trial. Pose of those figures still in the printer queue that I do not have yet will change who goes where.

I think the Walking Dead type of Horde, all moving in the same direction is what my minds eye sees, all heading "somewhere familiar". Dawn of the Dead sort of set that going with the observation that the Zeds headed to the shopping centre, because of the instinct that they had to go there.
