74 Sqn 1972 ?
« on: February 01, 2012, 06:31:30 AM »
1972?? I hear you ask....! But 74 Sqn disbanded at Tenagh on the 31st August 1971...?

Well, thats correct and it`s well known that it was another 13+ years before 74 reformed and got their F-4J(UK)`s.

However, what isn`t well known is that as with all Sqn disbandments, rumour control took over, and it was widely believed, if not accepted at the time, that the `Tigers` would reform in a matter of months on another type of cat.

Even Doug Tidy, author of `I Fear No Man` wrote at the time that he was looking forward to possibly seeing these two cats merge into a `hybrid`.

So, if you haven`t guessed already, scroll down to find out. ;)

With box art like that and your incredible imagination, this baby's bound to be one for the books, tc! I'm very much looking forward to seeing more!

Aww, I was hoping it would be an updated and Anglicized F11F.  ;)  This should prove rather interesting.

Sorry chris/guys, no bashing or weird and wonderful schemes on this one I`m afraid. It`s more of a `could have been`, (COB), rather than a whif. I`m working on a project involving 74 Sqn and I thought this would make a nice diversion away from the real world builds.

Anyhoo, made a good start on this as it`s pretty simple in it`s construction. No head aches so far.

Still looking a little `moist`, the first layer of `finest green` has been applied.

If your wondering why the lack of updates on this......, well...., I had a bit of a set back........,

No real idea why this happened , although I think I can make a reasonable guess, so I`m going to have to strip it all back down and start again. Once I`ve calmed down that is.... :icon_crap:

Turns out enamel and acrylic paints don`t mix......, apparently...   ;D  ;)

This is now more a restoration rather than a new build so looking forward to trying to work my magic on this.  >:D

It is with deep regret that I have to announce the `death` of this particular kit today. Despite the valiant efforts to revive it, all attempts failed to bring it back to a condition that I has happy to continue with.

It worth noting that this model was carrying a donor card and it is understood that a number of donor parts will be distributed shortly.

The 74 Sqn Jaguar story isn`t over though and as soon as a replacement kit arrives in the near future.

That is disappointing... on the bright side the kit is a donor now  ;)

Well the silver lining is that you can at least recycle some of the parts.

Believe me, I share your pain.

Better luck next time.

I`m trying to catch up to where I screwed up the other Jag, may she rest in peace, so I have decalled the cockpit, (yes, I know thats cheating) and pretty much got the main fuselage sorted out. Hopefully by the weekend I should be ready to spray the first colour on.
