I've entered a group build to benefit cancer research. You can read about here,My link (http://www.modelersalliance.com/forum/call-to-arms/119065-call-to-arms-rules) and there's still time to sign up- or simply donate a buck or two.

Well, here I go- better late than never! Since I'm in a time bind, I can't guarantee that the girls show up on a regular basis- I'm busy buildin', man! ;)

Many thanks, Chuck and it's great to have you here among us!

rrrRRRROOOWWWLLlllllllllll! *ahem* Yes, and ah, stunning modelling as well. The tip with the dry brushing
techinque is a welcome one-I would'nt have thought of oils for it. What advantages do they offer over
acrylics, Chuk?

Love it !

Pinning that Iron Cross on Hanna could have been interesting... 8)

I could swear I'd posted an answer a week and a half ago! Thanks, gents- Dr Yokai, I'll shot you a reply on that in the AM- it's dinnertime now! ;)

Well done!
I had to laugh because two solicitors have come to my door in the past couple of weeks, asking me to buy something "to support cancer". Each time I've successfully resisted my desire to correct them or make a joke at their expense. "Fight cancer"? "Support cancer research"? No, "support cancer". *sigh...*
Cheers,
Logan

Here's an update at last! Andi seems to have recovered and is back to full health, my job is hopping and my wife and I are well. That said, things do keep cropping up and modeling has to take second fiddle- and posting plays trombone. I had to cut this update short- look to the last pic for a teaser of where I am now. ;)/>/>

Thanks, guys! I think I can call this plane done. Of course I'll have to add a fresh oil streak here and there- as I build the diorama base. Updates will continue!

Another beautiful build - and the model ain't bad either! I can see the method of propping up the tail
becoming a standard. Its a brilliant innovation.

Outstanding job ... !!!!!

Thanks, guys! So glad you like it. I'm thinking about redoing the antenna, at least the vertical blt- that glue blob is just too big. Perfectiuon remains an elusive goal! ;) I hope to get to work on the bas ethis weekend- it's a three-dayer!

It's Memorial Day and the girls are attending services for the fallen, so my dog Andi is keeping an eye on Pfennig as we build our little Kubel. Read on!

Yup, and it's beautifully done.
That's quite a load on the poor little Kübelwagen! Are you going to sag the back suspension or give the rear tires a negative camber?
-
Not to complain, but is there some reason your last few posts have double-posted? That's a beautiful Kubelwagen and I'm looking forward to seeing what more you do with it.
-
That anti-tailsitter method is absolutely brilliant! :)
Not to complain, but is there some reason your last few posts have double-posted? <...>
Fixed that! ;) Deleted the double posts.
-
That's quite a load on the poor little Kübelwagen! Are you going to sag the back suspension or give the rear tires a negative camber?
With that load it probably needs both! ;D

Thanks, Kameraden- and thanks for the help with the double-post. I always get and error message that leads me to try again- and I've never noticed the double entries. Sorry about that!
apophenia and Guy, canting the wheels will be no problem, but compressing the torsion springs looks to be fairly impractical in this scale. If you have any ideas- also on turning the front wheels- I'm all ears!
Agin, my thanks- and stay tuned for more!
chuk
-
Sorry, dude, I work 1/35th & I still have trouble actually doing alterations like that.
I have thought about taking the kit leaf-springs out (coil springs are beyond me completely) & scratching some flat ones from thin styrene sheet but didn't (too much like hard work at the time, as I'd already put the rest of the build together). Turning wheels that are moulded straight can be a definite PITA. So far I've only used the play in the kit parts to induce a slight turn but I have thought of a more complex method involving cutting off the hub/brake/ball-joint unit & replacing the ball with a similar sized bead (attached to the axle using wire through the hole) & grinding out the socket/cup side of the joint with the Dremel. Fit. Induce turn & camber. Glue (remembering to cut & paste the steering linkages as required).
Not sure it will be of any use but I hope it helps.
:D
Guy
-
Fantastic work, Chukw!
And thanks for all the weathering tips!
-
From the look of it the 1/48 scale kit isn't much different from the 1/35 version. I would suggested you cut off the spindles and glue the piece to the wheel. I would try to keep it flush. Once it was cured,I would drill holes into the wheel and where you cut the pin off. Do this and pin the parts together with the angle for the turning front wheels. This is how I would do it in that scale.
-
Thanks, friends!
Over a month and no updates? Pfennig is furious! Calm him, Fritzi- please!

Thanks, guys! It's been one thing after another lately, with the latest being a dead PC! Fortunately the drives are recoverable, and a new macine is due in tomorrow- hurray! The kubel is done, the base is done, the plane is done- and the figures are in process. I hope to finish up this weekend and make the final post, which has already been started. Stay tuned!

Great work!! A great diorama

I feel funny, is modelling 'spose to cause ............. feelings ........... :-* :o
Brilliant work, flawless build, gorgeous Frauleins, it's a build thread that's got it all !!! 8) 8)
-
Well done.
Also interested in the next build - haven't heard of that particular kit before. What is it like?
-
Kinda wish it wasnt over, again amazingly inspirational work !! :)
Roll on the next build :)
-
Just looked through this again and can't believe I'n not commented on it before now - I've certainly been reading it :-[ (must have been distracted by something...) :P ;)
Anyway, awe-inspiring attention to detail and superb painting Chuk - wish I had 1/10th of your patience, never mind 1/10th of your skill. :)
-
Thanks, guys- thanks for sticking with this long ramble. Cheers!
-
Holy #%#$^%*I&*!@ is all I can say 8) Outstanding job man!
So Fritzi's getting transferred or will we see her long lost relative(s)? ;)
-
I'm with ChrisF, Weaver, Cliffy B :o
Looked at pictures slowly to take in details. So much fine model work for one to absorb.
Are tires OOB like that or did you sand off tread making them look well used ?
-
Thanks, guys- thanks for sticking with this long ramble. Cheers!
Feel free to ramble as long as you want....we'll just look at Fritzi and Hannah whilst you do(https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQUKO7CouAClysw_dH4CiPvuMHIhLgkiggDb5BZ-8d8Ysoq3L0g)

Not to drag this back but I do want to say thanks! Cliffy, the girls are in leave until my next German build- Pfennig, too! We'll have new coins and a new lass for the IAR. :D Finsrin, the aircraft wheels are True Details with the bulges sanded waaaay back- they're the treadless, smooth variety. The Kubel wheels are staight from the box- with the seams sanded off, taking some of the tread, too. Makes 'em look like they've gone across all of Africa, doesn't it? Cheers, GeeTee- does that mean I can post "real" aircraft on these boards? Is there a specific place for non-whiffers?
Cheers!

Always! Whilst we have a tendency towards the what if type subjects, we also welcome real world just as much. There is no special place since they can just go in the same Current and Finished Projects areas as other builds.

Greg
PS. This goes for profiles as well.

I'd have to say I love this thread on so many levels
Firstly, I admire charity work (especially when it goes to reputable charities who are actually in it to help people with conditions like... cancer) and I think it would be awesome if there were more art projects devoted to this so hats off!
Secondly, I love the aircraft design

Thank you kindly, gents! I was hoping to get a start on the IAR 81C this past weekend, but Sunday afternoon my wife suddenly realized that she had left her wallet on a vendor table at the flea market. Bummer- especially now that she has to go through the joys of the DMV. :P I did spend a fair amount of time looking through the kit and the lovely book bt Radu Brinzan. I've got some fun detail work ahead of me!
-
I'm looking forward to it, Chuk! The IAR 80/81 is a favorite of mine and it's going to be a lot of fun to see your take on it.
