Clear Your Bench Group Build 2016-17 Edition
With Christmas just days away, Santa knows how many kits you have started but not finished.
So for you get any more modeling supplies (kits, paints, brushes, books, new software etc) as a Christmas gift, you need to show some progress in clearing your bench. And if you did not know already Santa now has the largest fleet of drones in the world so he knows what you are doing 24/7 in all electromagnetic spectrum's. You cannot hide from the Elvin drone operators. They never sleep.
The GB rules are:
1. Have Fun!!!
2. All started projects are allowed, from one percent started to 99 percent complete. The whole point of this GB is to "purge your procrastination" and finish all those projects you have started. We all seem to stall at different points, so a picture(s) of where you last left off, and a description of your plans to where are taking your project would be helpful.
3. All mediums are welcomed. so physical models, Pixels/profiles and stories (and anything else if you can think of it) are all welcome. Yes, finish those evil real world projects. The faster you get done with that, the quicker you get back to fun time of whiffing.
4. Creativity encouraged as is collaboration, however any attempt to fool Santa will be discovered (via the drones) and Black Peter/Pierre Noir/Schwarzer Peter will be bringing you a Starfix/Bandai/Nichimo/Meikraft/Mach 2 kit for Christmas.
5. GB duration is December 1, 2016 to January 31, 2017. An extension may be granted.
6. Physical creations and pixels/stories will be judged separately.
7. Multiple entries are allowed and encouraged. This GB is supposed to get you across the finish line!!
Any questions are to be directed to the Moderator (The Big Gimper).
Please do not forget Rule 1!
-
How do we post models such that each one is in its own thread under physical models ?
How is WIP posted versus finished posted ?
-
Good question Bill.
First off I renamed my Threads to Completed. You should post your finished photos, drawings or written item within these three master threads.
For your work in progress item, you should create own thread under: Beyond The Sprues » Modelling » Group and Themed Builds » Annual Clear your workbenches GB » 1/72 US Navy Monitor Boat
-
If there is a build thread already underway, we can also move it to this GB area.

Bandai in a list with Starfix and Mach 2? :-\
Sure, Black Peter can bring me a slew of Gundams and Star Wars kits
and I won't complain.
;D :icon_fsm:
p.s. Nichimo's 'old' Ki 43 is still the best 1/48 Oscar out there and stands
up well to current 1/48 kits. Their 1/48 Ki 45 and Ki 51 are both also pretty
damned good.

Maybe I am dating myself Jon. I had some Bandai kits in the the 1970s they were less than buildable. But your preferences have been noted and entered into the SC database.
-
I'll add one of mine later once I've figured out if I can "'really"" finish it. Haven't had much time for myself lately with work being as busy as it is

Sounds good Robert. I still hold the title of the "Prince of Procrastination". I would love to have someone else assume this title. ;)

We're the same age. ;D
I built some of their 1/48 armour back in the '70s and enjoyed them, today
Bandai makes some of the finest kits available with multiple colours (and clear)
on a single sprue, workable joints on 'one-piece' mouldings, primarily
cement-less construction, etc.
They have engineering and moulding that some of the military kit manufacturers
are just starting to emulate, amongst them Meng with its new 1/48 P-51 and
Fujimi with their Next series of 1/350 ships.
-
Had only foggy recollection Bandai. Found some of their armor kits online. Now recall building at least Panzer Wespe and Schutzenpanzerwagen halftrack. Was in 70s and I like Jon also enjoyed them.

Thanks for cooking up these motivational contests.
-
Um, I only have to varnish my only wip and it's done. Do you think Santa would mind, if I get time, starting one from scratch?
(P.S. Will anyone be building a model of one of the drones?) :o
-
Hi PF:
This is acceptable. The more kits the better.
Cheers
Carl

Hi Folks:
Sorry for the absence. I had Carpal Tunnel surgery on my dominate hand last week. So my keyboarding was limited my other hand at 1 word per minute. :(
Getting better but no fun at all.
So over the holiday break, lets all head up or down to the model cave or folder on your computer and dig out those unloved kits/pictures that you have forgotten about and give some love and stylus/PSR and add them to the ACYW GB.
I'll be heading downstairs shortly with the archaeology tool kit and dig out a few kits myself.
Thanks

My stash and WIPs have been packed ready for the move after Christmas so unlikely I will participate in this one either.
-
I'm getting ready to jump in, (hopefully) in a big way but I haven't been able to break even long enough to start a solid thread yet. Hoping in a few days...
Wishing you a speedy recovery!!

Where you headed to, mate? ???
I'm assuming not Adelaide. ::)
-
Couple of clicks down the road, we are trying rural for 12 months renting a 5 acre block with a decent house and most importantly a big shed decked out with two bedrooms for my step daughter, her boyfriend and there menagerie. The idea is we give it twelve months and see what happens with my wife job and whether I can find anything suitable now our former employer pulled the plug on the contract I was working, if that pans out we stay and maybe buy rural, if not we give Sydney a go (would prefer Adelaide as I am still in demand there with all the new shipbuilding projects)
-
I'll keep everything crossed for Adelaide! ;)
For you & your career but, on a more selfish note, it would be great to get some face-to-face with a fellow whiffer, occasionally. :)

Maybe I should let you know the next time I am in Adelaide...

With all the nearly completed kits I've found today I may actually be able to gat something done, even if its only a paintjob.
-
Just found my old partially built 1/700 Skywaves HMAS Perth DDG and what looks like most of the RN and USN modern weapons sets, Even better my roll top bureau is in my new massive bedroom, along with my expensive ergonomic office chair. Just need to find the boxes with my tools, paints and other hobby stuff and I may get something done after all. Just need to get to the point that I have been seen to have done enough with the transport and unpacking of boxes to have earned sufficient me time to do it.
-
We are seeing some great CPR and awesome effort here folks for those kits with VSA (vital styrene absent) !!!
Lets keep the defibrillator fully charged, apply the paddles and shock those dead builds back to life!
CLEAR???
GLUE 'EM!!

I can already tell you Im going to need another 2 weeks :o
-
Damn, I just started a new job and no spare time now! ;D

That is great news Paul. I can call your new employer if you want and ask them for some company time so you to get at least build done. ;)
-
No chance, they have an encumbrance on my soul for the next six months, in fact I believe they are considering reintroducing conscription to get this contact completed. Should be fun though, working on real floaty things again.
-
Okay. Somewhat similar practice to the RN Press Gangs? ;D

Sort of ;)
-
Well I have been working on mine, just not enough to warrant any pics yet
-
Good morning, afternoon, evening and night ladies and germs.
There are 8 official days left in the ACYWGB.
However as like all previous GBs the moderator I am transparent enough to say I am open to brides be they monetary or large amount of 1/72 aircraft kits to add an extension.

So don't stop building/drawing/writing. Don't leave anything in the tank!
Finish in style:

Well that was either the longest two day trial or the shortest "six month" contract I have ever experienced. There were apparently very satisfied with my work but needed my "tools" for another project. Unfortunately no tools means no ability to produce the artefacts I was being paid to produce, therefore no reason for me to be there.
On the bright side it may be a good time for some therapeutic model building.

I'm sorry to hear this Paul. I hope you find another opportunity.

Ladies and Germs: There is just under 42 hours left.

However this is a benevolent Group Build so an extension could be granted with sufficient demand. I'm all ears.

Got a second job now- also in need of an extension.

With just under 6 days left I am expecting everyone to start pulling all nighters to get their projects done.
Stock up on your Red Bull, Rock Star, Venom etc and send me the bill.

Warning: excessive consumption of red bull or similar may result in irregular paint schemes due to excessive hand movement... ;D

It is great to see that Red Bull is starting to pay dividends
Just a reminder to put your finished product in the appropriate "Completed ...." sub-topic.
Thanks

Thank you to Claymore and Brian da Basher for two more great projects.
With just over 24 Hours left EST, we have put Jack Bauer on call if you need help finishing your project.

Thanks for all your work.
