This is looking good already, can't wait!

cheated on that found a pic and ran it through some filters to make it look less like a pic and then popped in in the relevant layer, all-in-all a few minutes worth of work :)
-
Hey, essentially no different to a plastic modeller buying some pre-painted cockpit bits. Either way, it looks good.
Regards,
Greg

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
To celebrate here's a new P-47 Jet for you!
Still chipping away at the Mirage with nothing to show just yet :)

Nice jet Damian, thanks for sharing. :in-love:
We will wait patiently for the Mirage...

Hi All
Two more P/F-47 Js for you, and here I thought I was done with the F/P-47 Jets!
1. QF-47 FSAT the last "Hurrah!" for the USAFs first front line combat jet:
2. A military assistance supplied bird:

Definitely looks the part Damian.
Regards,
John

"Very pretty, Colonel. Very pretty. But, can they fight?"
Cheers,
Logan
-
Those last two are simply stunning!
-
Some work to show on the Mirage F-1, I've gotten the AZ nose shaded, shaped and high lighted and have completed the forward fuselage, just have the cannon to do on the front and then its more of less done.

Love you F-47's

Seconded! :in-love:
-
F-47Js are awesome, especially the QF!!!
-
Oki dokie with the help of John (Bladerunner) I've corrected the nose profile of the Mirage F-1AZ of course this mean getting rid of the shades and high lights done so far but it's still early so nothing amjor was lost:

Am joining the others as a F-47 fan !
-
Well after more than a year away from my art work I present the first for 2013. This colour scheme has long been a favorite of mine

Top!! :)
-
Welcome back!
-
Here is my newest effort, this was completed in 4 days thanks to being sick off work with a chest infection!
As a background the USAF decided to look for a new LIFT trainer to replace the T-37 in the early 80s this lead to the adoption of the BAe Hawk as the T-45A with the Naval variant becoming the T-45B. Here she is in ATC colours:
Here is the first time I tried this colour scheme in the infancy of my profiling days, here I used the Hawk 100 series as the LIFT plane. I dropped the red line on the one above as I used the T-37 blue and white colour scheme as my start point where previously I used the Texan II:
-
Looks great, Damian! That really turned out well. Glad to have you back! I particularly like the way you do canopies.
Cheers,
Logan
-
Beautiful hawks!! And they still might happen as part of the T-38 replacement program. Still, it would be interesting to see an AT-45 single-seater based on the Hawk 200.
-
Instead of going the route of developing their own costly trainer the JASDF instead opened a global competition. The BAe Hawk won with Japan odering the Hawk 66.
1. Standard trainer scheme:
2. Commemorative F-2 scheme:
And of course Blue Impulse:
-
Yep. Also pretty.
Cheers,
Logan
-
Your Hawk is really great! Particularly like the US one.
-
This is me teasing Greg...soooo close to Aus but not quite there...yet.
-
Hmmm....did you forget that we have the BTS Gulag comrade?? :icon_punal:
-
That's alright, Greg. When the RNZAF inevitably retires their Hawks, I'm sure someone in Florida will buy the whole lot of them and you can see them here!
Cheers,
Logan
-
Sweet......
-
Fine work, Damian! :)
Are we going to see some single-seaters?
-
Fine work, Damian! :)
Are we going to see some single-seaters?
Eventually the whole Hawk family will be done :)
-
After a little time away from the Hawk because I am strating a new profile I present to you a duo of RAAF Hawks because I think we can all agree Greg has been patient with this :)
1. The modern low viz scheme:
2. The awesome "Fanta can" scheme:
And lastly *gasp* a real world profile!!
-
Orange and white Hawks look gooooood! :-* What a coincidence that I purchased an Italeri 1/72 MB-326 for the "Roulettes" decals and another Airfix Hawk only recently. >:D
-
These Hawks are seriously impressive!
-
Hi all!
With a recent snafu at work setting the night shift back I have had to work more of those pesky 12 hour shift so haven't had the energy to do more work, however I do have a forth coming attraction for you :) This is something I have never done (nor anyone else it seems) and came about after a discussion with Logan, now bear in mind I have only gotten to a small section and this is mock up 1:

Seeing as there was a dealine extension on the Coulda, Shoulds GB I decided to crack on with some SAAF Hawks before moving back to my other project (US-1 Kai or HS-2). So I decided to go old school with the first profile in the Impala Mk.II scheme, which isn't NMF but a Silver paint that ends up as a matt after long enough exposure to the African sun (there's one mounted at the aitport her in PE)
The next one I went for was, of course, a mount in the Silver Falcons. I love their new scheme with the big falcon's head on the front fuselage. Now what I've done is more of "an inspired by" than a direct copy of the scheme layout found on the PC-7.
for those of you who were around may recognise this scheme because I tackled it once before in my early profile days :)
This is it for the Hawks for now, until I get more info on the T-45A/C, or until some whimsy to do something colourful bites!!
-
That Silver Falcons Hawk is a should have been! Beautiful work!
-
Awesome! Look at the improvement over the years :)
-
Stay tuned for more profiling goodness right here. Busy with an Airbus A320 will be doing civie and military versions of it :)
Any thoughts o suggestions would be helpful!
-
MPA variant? AEW&C variant?

Feel free to do your own take on the subject, Damian, but FAR's had the same idea on the What If forum and is pretty far along. I just didn't want you to spend a few dozen hours working on it and then get discouraged that someone else had already gone down that same road.

Hehe it seems we both came up with the same solution for the AWACs platform. My maritime patrol though is based off the Airbus proposal to India and in both cases feature different window arrangements. Besides how many artists do the P-51? It all comes down to one's interpretation of the subject.
-
Oh, exactly. Again, I didn't want to discourage you from doing it. Everyone has their own style and own take on a subject. I just know that different profilers feel differently about such things. That's why you'll never see me do the TSR.2, for example. Plenty of very high quality artwork on that already out there.
Cheers,
Logan

One more Hawk for old time's sake. Here displaying our colourful flag :)

I am on leave!!!! Keep watching this space!

Been stuck in something of a creative rut of late (as you may have noticed) and have been looking for something interesting. A few days ago I found it, the work of the very talented Pier Olin on deviant art http://pier-olin.deviantart.com/ (http://pier-olin.deviantart.com/). After looking through everything I popped him a message to ask if I could profile some of his work and he agreed!
So here is the first, the McGrumman Skycat:

Must find those Kinetic 1/48 T-45 instructions for you... :-[

Hehehe it's cool. Now for the above I am think WW II USN, FAA. Post war USN, FAA, RCN and most likely other Wildcat/Hellcat users.

Here's a teasrer of where I am going with this. Still have the tail, antenna and props to high light, shade and shape but it will do for now:
Oh yes changed the name of the manufacturer so that the model name makes more sense. It is now the Dougalmman F7F Skycat :)
-
That is wonderful !! Love it :-*
-
When the Dougalmann Skycat entered service it represented what was probably the best compromise of the time between nautical and aeronautical demands in ashipboard fighter. Aesthetically unappealing to some, what the little warplane lacked in speed compared to its contemporary land based rivals it made up for in having a good climb rate, patrol range and the sturdyness for intensive carrier ops.

I hope you like the pugnacious little fighter :)
-
Different...what sort of engine does it have?
-
Neato !! :)
made it a twin-engine ;) the Grumman Grunticus ...
-
Different...what sort of engine does it have?
Dunno to be honest, I am going with one powered ground corporate executives (TORGO'S A MILLION AND ONE USES!) and possibly unicorn farts. So a V configuration with a blower then?
-
I have been meaning to complete my series of VF-1 profiles from the show and then do the DYRL. Of the series I still have to do Myria cause I got on with Kakazaki's VF-1 :)
So not realy a whiff as such, more pure japanese sci-fi goodness. BTW I grew up with Robotech not Macross so he was always Ben Dixon to me, he taught me an important lesson, FLY FASTER!

Hi all
Started my new project. Line art is now done after 6.5 hours. Most of that pouring over the mock ups and deciding which actual aircraft would serve as stand in parts that the mock up didn't show.
The next step is deciding on colour schemes. A SEA is on the cards for sure, perhaps ANG and AFRES (think AFRES F-105s in all those awesome schemes) and perhaps some foreign operators.
-
I'd reckon that just about any scheme applied to a F-5 could be applied here; that leaves lots of room for a variety of schemes.
-
Nice F-102 silhouette, like a F-16 forefather! :-*
-
Looking great, damian! I can't wait to see some of these finished! I'm glad that blog post helped with the detail.
Cheers,
Logan

Hi guys!
After having my pc die on me I have managed to recover my art work! I am on the wife's laptop for now (or should I say foreseeable future) but I have all my stuff back! Woohoo!
Stay tuned for more developments!
-
As far as color schemes go, don't forget some of the "Asia Minor" schemes that appear in official documents; those could work for both USAF and export operators.

Got any good refs or links? Need to re-establish my info links as I only got 1 HDD up and running :(

I can't wait for the Fang! I've loved it for a long time and considered doing it myself a few years ago.
Cheers,

Ok so the N-102 is on the back burner for now as I am working on a collaboration, I will be supplying the images. Here is a teaser of what is in the works.

Mirage F-1 ?? :-*
-
Mirage F-1 ?? :-*
Why yes :)
The F-1.M53 started life as an engine test bed but was then entered into the competition to find a replacement for the ageing F-104s found in European air forces. It was briefly re-branded as the F-1E but ended up losing to the F-16 in the "deal of the century".
-
I am working on a collaboration
I wonder who with? 8)
-
BTW, here are a couple of photos of the real world F1-M53:
Note that it had the SNECMA M53 which is the same engine as the Mirage 2000 and thus some 30 - 35% greater thrust than the SNECMA Atar 9K-50 in most Mirage F1s.
-
YES :-*
If you need pics of this aircraft, send me a PM. I worked on it when I was in high school (for an Avionic mecanician diplom) and I did a little walkaround of this aircraft :)

Me too!
Here are the two updated airframes.
The general mid life update which added a FLIR/Laser ranger/marked target seeker to the mix.
And a recon conversion for quick sneak and peeks
(http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/damian2/Profiles/My%20Profiles/Blanks%20in%20progress/MirageF-1-M53Recon.png)
Now if I get a move on I may be able to get the recon bird done for the recce gb currently in progress :)
-
With the great walk around photos sent to me by Damien I have managed to correct the engine nozzles and intake cone for this bird. And thus we begin the epic adventure to see if I can complete a recon bird before the recon GB closes. Add to that I will only be able to really get down to it from Monday due to other commitments.

Nice job on that canopy. The glare obscuring part of the interior is something I also do and it looks quite nice on the F-1.
Cheers,
Logan

Looks really better, great job. Cannot wait to see more :P
Damien
-
Hi all!
Please watch this space. New laptop arriving soon and will be bugging alot of people for help rebuilding my archive of materials :)
-
I am really looking forward to this, I have always been a fan of the F-1 and the E was pretty much the perfect whiff for just about any small to medium airforce from the late seventies.
Actually is there a conversion kit for the E, in any scale?
-
Necro post.
Still alive and recently got bitten by the art bug again.
-
Geez, if Damian's back and profiling again, then I guess I should, too. I'll have to text Talos and we'll see if we can get all three clocks to chime at the same time.
Cheers,
Logan

GOOD NEWS! I was at least half smart, though all my reference pics, colour references, colour samples, three views (list goes on) I do have my line art (uploaded that to cloud storage.)

So...um...still busy.
I feel a bit free to chat in my thread about why I went dark.
2014 was a long year filled with sighs and since then I have been in a constant battle with depression. When I lost all my art and the resources and the info and, and, and it was a gut punch in a sea of gut punches. I have found it hard to find that spark again as it just seems like too much to go through all again. That is the personal level.
On the professional level my full time job has only increased in stress levels and in conjunction with that I co-founded a company doing "car things" which added more to my plate.
I have since been bitten by the sim racing bug and went on to make a sim rig and have done what-if skins for my buddy's team
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erpLsOoC-Zo&t=0s&list=LLJ33oTKmBFmQ2RmQ4BVPw3w&index=21 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erpLsOoC-Zo&t=0s&list=LLJ33oTKmBFmQ2RmQ4BVPw3w&index=21)
(their team launch vid and if I did it correctly there should be a preview pic below)
So some of the skills learnt here did not go to waste. Figuring all that placing out was an interesting experience first coming to grips with the Ferrari and then the Porka. I have recently built a pc to join in all this madness so my next project will be skins for my team, Torque Dirty Racing (also that's my company's name :D shameless plug)
Well what does all that mean for my aviation art? Like I said earlier, it is difficult because it is something I was doing when it all went wrong (my favourite game series Mass Effect also falls in to this "category") so when I sit down to think about doing it touches raw places.
However, I love aircraft and I am not making any promises but let's see what we can do in the next few months eh?
As always, have a good one!
-
I'm definitely looking forward to you getting back to profiles, Damian! You've got my support!
Cheers,
Logan
-
Prep yourselves for some automotive what-iffery in the next few hours. My friend and company co-founder have entered the second season of Simrace SA's GT racing series using the sim Assetto Corsa (brilliant btw).
We start on Monday with seeding races in the GT4 league where we will be piloting the Maserati GT MC GT4. If you want to they stream the races on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7a2J_VcHmoeriRmpqJSkSw (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7a2J_VcHmoeriRmpqJSkSw)
So back to the car, this is "What-if Damian had enough money to do this for real!" I am doing custom skins for the car which looks like this:
So got Alabama Thunderpussy playing, a cafe mocha next to me, let's do this!
-
-
That is a nice skin  love the colors
-
Know how you feel. Depression is a right bastard. Takes things you love and that used to give you energy and turns them into s**t. :icon_crap:
Really happy for you that you found something else that's giving you joy! Way to go!
-
That is a nice skin  love the colors
I wish, that is a really nice shot of the real deal :)
-
Ok so yesterday ran into today.
This is what happens when you delete things you ought not to...turned in at 4am and resumed again at 10am (though annoyingly sleep only came at six ((also, did I tell you it was winter and it was as the locals say "poes" cold))). All of this plus another few hours (and I can spend many, many more save for the deadline of today) and I still managed to set a qualification time of 1:56:653 at Imola!
...Only 6 seconds slower than those sitting in the top 5. But I am division 2 talent level for now anyway and this the number of entries there will be plenty of scraps to be had.
So in thinking about a livery design I wanted something striking as these races are live streamed. Call me an 80's child but I love black and neon when it comes to liveries because they are just so eye catching. My tea mate chose blue for his highlight colour and I went for a shade more masculine pink :)
-
Hi all
So deciding what to draw have put a poll up on my short list. Have a say in the next piece.
-
The poll is still up for a few more hours though the Bucc seems to be the winner (I set up the poll incorrectly so HAD to click something so made it the top one :D, therefore the F-4 only has 2 votes).
I chose the Bucc to be part of the list as I have memories of watching them return to AFB Waterkloof when my family lived in Waterkloof, Pretoria in the late 80's.
Time to start on that research, colour samples and markings :)
Which service/scheme will be first? Time will tell :)
-
Good to hear from you again mate.

This is a song my late dad played when I was a kid in the 80s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73PPofzvOX0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73PPofzvOX0)
It's McCully Workshop's The Buccaneer from 1977. So busy researching scheme no.1 and I think Vietnam will be my starting point.
Enjoy the song :)

Got a bit busy prepping TDR's Nissan R35 GT GT3 cars for their first Simrace SA run, 60 laps at Donnington (one of my favourite circuits)
Got a chance to do some more work on the Bucc :)

Slowly but surely!

I did a quick 'n nasty mock up of the first colour scheme I will be doing.

Thoughts and comments welcome!

Looks great!! If you are taking requests, I definitely have one for a Buccaneer in Marineflieger markings, either MFG1 or MFG2.

Hmmm sounds like it might be a plan. Could you post a pic or two of the scheme here please?

Maybe a scheme like this Marineflieger Starfighter?
-
That's shaping up to be some real eye-candy!
U.S.N. scheme on a 'Buc appears to be a natural!

I think I can add one to the line :)

Excellent news! I'm wondering what the Bucc's Marineflieger nickname would be. I note that buccaneer translates into der Flibustier although I kind of like der Seeräuber and das Piratenschiff as too :D

I need to figure out USN/USMC, USAF and RAAF and NZ designations...Japan too...:D
-
Good question. Of course, the answer depends upon when the Buccaneer enters US service. How about 'A-11'?
There's no confirmed A-11 designation in the current system (A-10 was applied in the '70s, A-12 in the late '80s). Going by the F-111C and F/A-18s, I doubt that Australia would apply its own designation. Maybe JA-11 for the JASDF?
-
Depending on when this is, too, you could just use "A-8". A lot of people don't realize that the Harrier (AV-8) is in the attack aircraft line.
Cheers,
Logan

These should do for samples.

Well the airframe is an S2 which entered British service in '62, so '64-'65 tri-service introduction in my world, therefore I could call it the A-7. Either that or go with Logan's suggestion of A-8 with the A-7 being used for more of a CAS role with the A-8 fulfilling anti-ship and deep strike roles.
-
Personally, I like the A-8 designation as it would fit the progression. Supposedly the reason the designation was never used was to avoid confusion with the AV-8A Harrier, which really should have been the AV-6B, following on to the XV-6A Kestrel.
-
Yeah, I think A-8 might be a pretty elegant solution that fits the timeframe well and avoids the more familiar attack designations.
Cheers,
Logan

Thus it is decided that the plane will be called the A-8 Buccaneer!

Look what the cat dragged in. Been laid up with a broken ankle so got back to drawing.
It's not a Bucc but it is ready for paint :)

Your Skyhawk looks fantastic, and the RNAS colour scheme is spot on. However, I am
curious as to the model/mark of this aircraft - an A-4D, perhaps?

I was trying to figure out what the UK MOD would have used based on the following:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_military_aircraft_designation_systems (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_military_aircraft_designation_systems)
Went with the same designation as the Hunters. Though I wonder if I should have gone with FG instead of FGA?

I thought the Scooter would look good in Suez colours.

Shouldn't be too difficult. The one with the knife wielding tiger on the nose?

I wonder, would the FAA and/or RAF replace the 20mm cannons on the "stock" A-4 with ADEN 30mm cannons, much as the Israelis substituted DEFA 30mm cannons?

That makes sense. Singapore's A-4S would later receive ADENs in place of the Colt Mk 12s ... so we know that the 30 mms fit

Maybe also an Italian one in this sort of scheme:

Was actually going to make a Skyhawk the G.91 stand in so Itallian AF was on the menu. Wondering if I should jump on an A-4C/L or E/F for it?
-
Wasn't there consideration of submitting the A4D-2N (A-4C) for NBMR-1 against the G.91? If so, the 'C would seem to make sense.
-
Considering that a modified A4D-2 and the G.91 both were demonstrated to the US Army, that would be a fair replacement. If you do an Italian adaptation of the one demonstrated, you will need dual wheel main gears with fairing at the front underside of the wing to cover the extra wheel.

I guess I need to be more specific - What American model A-4 Skyhawk is this? A-4C? A-4D?

Ouch! Sorry about that broken ankle, but good to see you profiling again!
