A Bristol Freighter, retired from the RNZAF finds new life as a novel hotel

The idea for this dio (1/144th scale) was a place we stayed in in New Zealand earlier this year.  RNZAF 9506 (the dio is 9510) is an ex-RNZAF aircraft that has been converted into two "hotel"rooms.  The "Cockpit Room"sleeps 4 - two in the nose and two behind the cockpit, while the "Fuselage Room" also sleeps 4 i believe.  We stayed in the Cockpit Room:

In that picture you can just see the sink/kitchenette to the left (with microwave), and to the right the ladder to our bedroom

The room had cable TV and a shower (the fuselage is divided in two - the shower for the cockpit room about midway along the fuselage)

How was the stay? Believe it or not I've never been there...not yet, anyway.

Top job!

KiwiZac:

We only stayed the one night - Feb this year.  Access to upstairs is via a steep and narrow ladder - but up there is quiet comfortable and the interior is well set out down-stairs.

We loved it.

I don't think I've ever seen that camo scheme done better, Scran!

Of course, with those wonderful Kiwis you were well on the way to a stunning model!

Most enjoyed this one and the bit about the Bristol Kiwi Freighter Hotel.

Supposedly one of the last Allied planes out of Vietnam.

Considering the variety of themes at this park, sounds like a GB topic.

Terrific, real and dio.  Hoteliers take note please.  (Go on, did you play pilots when everyone else was sleeping?)
If I don't plan it, it can't go wrong!

If it's great, I did it. If it's naff, I found it.

Seeing i refuse to pay the ridiculous cost of updating Photobucket - can anyone suggest a free alternative option for images?
