Title: German Plains - The Fulda Gap
Post by: ScranJ51 on May 10, 2016, 03:20:21 PM
If I may:

As tensions tighten over Soviet incursions into German airspace (pre-unification of East and West German) the Bundeswehr moves forces closer to the Fulda Gap:

Here, a Panzergrenadier column(a Marder AFV and Flakgepard shown) moves forward past an old Leopard 1 tank in a fixed defensive position.

Also present is a Liaison Officer front a US Brigade - talking to the Leopard 1 Commander:

The Leopard sits in a pre-built hull down defensive position just off the track:

The dio was created by building the fixed hull down position from craft wood and framers foam.

The Marder, Flakgepard, Leopard 1 and the Tow-equipped jeep were all stand alone kits.  There are a few additional figures from a german panzergrenadier set with several different poses.

Enjoy - and stay tuned for German Plains 2!!!  :D

Between this incredible scene and that REFORGER wonder you just posted, you're totally hitting my 1980's Cold War nostalgia button, Scran!

Not sure I'd be all to thrilled if I was assigned to the dug-in Leopard...

Yet another amazing example of your boundless talent!

Going shopping for a copy of Red Storm Rising,

I'm getting the feeling that many of these vehicles belong in the "Dust (http://www.dustgame.com/)" universe. ;D

Not a criticism, just a tip for future figure painting;

I would suggest you try to vary the skin tones & lightly shadow the creases & mouths, & do something for the eyes.
I'm not an expert, by any means, but doing the above adds depth & character to your figures.
A quick search on the interweb brought up these site, which may be of assistance;

(I've actually linked those vid's so I can reference them in future to improve my figures).

A second-rate AFV paint job with some fairly good figures;

An OK figure (largely hidden away in the final build);

Gee - thanks old Wombat.

That dio is 7 years old.

One of these days I might get around to adding a LITTLE more detail.

There are one or two others I'll add here - pardon me if they ain't perfect.......................................................

I really like this one. It probably helps that I’m a big fan of German armor from this era.

One thing I have always been crap at is eyes, even when I get them looking like eyes I miss the target and leave the figures looking like they are wearing a Quasimodo mask.
