Title: Shi-odo
Post by: polygon on April 24, 2015, 11:28:03 PM
Basically I'm just going to plant the superstructure of the Shirane onto the hull of the Oyodo.

Oyodo's guns will be retained and it will be a landing support ship, providing gun fire and ah-1 cobra's to support amphibious operations.

Already see this as working.  Concept and combination of parts :)
Is Oyodo longer of the two models ?

Yes,but also narrower:

Also gonna use this as an opportunity to try PE handrails, they're super fiddly, but I think it'll add a nice finishing touch.

During construction I lost one of the gun barrels, I though it was lost for ever, so i fashioned a replacement:

and just as I put the finishing touches on the model, I found it stuck to some blu tak underneath my brush washing pot!

Yes those Phalanx look great, 1bs I notice, are they Shapeways by any chance as I have just ordered the 1/700 modern weapons set from there?

Nothing special, they're just from the Pit-Road modern equipment set. Although I did cut off the oversize barrels and replaced them with thin rod.

That's a cracking idea, and I could see it being very viable too. The Cobras would have the option of using their own weapons or acting as spotters for the ship's guns...  :)

Terrific job.
Your ships have inspired me to do another ship as well.
Just completed the 1/700 HMS Daring by Dragon.

Like you the pe railing is fiddly, but as you have just shown, it looks ace !
