Polish whiffs (previously PZL-230 Skorpion 1:48)
« on: April 29, 2014, 03:02:02 AM »
Hello!

Few years ago I had build one of the few versions of PZL-230 and I think time has come for another :) I mean this one:

(I borrowed photo above from topic about Skorpion-I hope it's allowed)

I'm going to bash Mastercraft F-16, Monogram A-10 and Italeri F-22. And of course a lot of putty and styrene sheets:)
I had a plan to use whole front section of F-22 as a Skorpion fuselage but F-22 proved to be too big so I got back to F-16 and began a surgery. Despite of low supply of styrene, I managed to make basic shapes of wings and canards. As a tailplanes, I' ll use horizontal stabilizers from F-22. Photo below:

I've cut away more plastic than I thought I will.
Suddenly, when my Skorpion was finally taking shape. I just wondered if wings aren't too small. I hit upon an idea- why not try to fit and reshape F-16 wings. On the photos Skorpion with first version wings and another shot with F-16 wings. Which version is better? Now I'm trying to fit engines....Ehh

Watching this one very closely!  You should make a master from it and sell some resin copies…hint, hint!

:D I heard that mock-up of Skorpion was offered on auction (pice was very low as for 1:1 model). I have a plan to visit Military Technical Academy in Warsaw and ask if they're still want to sell it :)

Hello!

I've decided to go with reshaped F-16 wings. I've made original , styrene wings  too small so now I have more work...Anyway, engines are temporarily fitted so I could adjust elevation and shape of tailplanes.

Thanks for all kind words , guys:)

I've managed to make a caisson (almost) like on original model. Amount of filler is visible:)

PS:

I would like to rename this topic cause I'd like to start a long-term project similar to well-known and loved "Taiidan" topic :)
So now "PZL-230 Skorpion 1:48 - final version WIP" becames simply "Polish whiffs". Next models in project: A-10, F-35B , F-35C when it'll be available and C-27 as a gunship :) And many more , I hope :)

Thanks guys:)

Because Skorpion is waiting for Miliput and Mr. White putty (stillno answer from hobby store grrrr  >:( ) I've decided to go with A-10. Not much today:

Although I really like new Italeri models , their cocpits are always as simple as it hurts:

I've recently bought an Verlinden set for Monogram A-10 and I love it :) I'll try to drop it into Italeri model:

Another day of fighting with putty. Still puttying/sanding upper side:

Bottom is only slight better:

There will be some problems with fit of cockpit tub because rear wall of resin tub is smaller than the one from set but I'm trying not to think about it now :) Some (still not finished)painting:

Decals are here so it's close to unpack F-35B :)

That seat looks great!

I think you are actually doing a really good job with the putty  :), my putty projects don't look that well thought out and under control

I have a plan to buy all three F-35's and use all three versions of the decals. I regret that I bought low-vis version of decals but I hope it'll be possible to find high-vis soon.
Anyway...fight goes on:

I was scared as h... but I've decided to use a mini saw and cut a hole for front gear well.
Surprisingly there was no problems with that:
