Ju88 or Ju188?
« on: May 23, 2012, 07:47:00 PM »
Folks,

As previously mentioned elsewhere in the forum, I am tempted to do a floatplane based on either the Ju88 or the Ju188.  The idea would be for this to either complement or replace the He-115.  The problem I have though is that I simply can't make up my mind regarding which to do.  What do you think?

Regards,

Greg

I've always preferred the look of the 88 over the 188, but this is just personal taste.

With some other land-to-seaplane conversions, I believe earlier versions were typically used, at least in the prototype stage. This freed the more up-to-date models for front-line duties (remembering the Spitfire seaplane).

Whichever you decide, I think the results will be fantastic!

Maybe I need to start getting people to give me reasons for one over the other...

I personally think the JU-88 would suit a floatplane look better... The 188 looks nose heavy..

I went with Ju-88 for the same reason as ChrisF. For anti-shipping, it'd be tempting to have a cannon mount in the bomb site position as per Ju-88A-14 conversions.

I'm going for the Ju88 simply because it seems to do damn near everything well and would be most suitable.

My second choice if I hadn't gone with the Bf 110 for my float plane build was the Ju 88. I just can't see a 188 as a floatplane.

I've got to agree with Chris here.

Now a Ju-188 would seem ripe to be converted to jet power...

Ju 188 but only if you do it up like the He 119 V5 with buried engines and contra-props.

I thought about it, voted 88, then thought about it some more and changed it to 188. With pylon
style, ( as opposed to strut ) floats, and the minimal surface clearance need to keep the props from
 gouging the water.

I plan to use floats from a Ju-52 float plane on it:

Guess I'm going against the flow here --- I've always prefered the Ju 188 myself, so ------ go with the 188 Greg  :icon_killbill:

I think Both !!!!

Ju-88 with the Ju-52's set-up for an early one -- then a -188 with pylon-floats for a late war version. :)

A close vote there but it looks like the people have spoken (damn peasants...oops did I say that?!) and a Ju-88 it is.

Mind you I could complicate this further and ask whether it should be a bomber or fighter Ju-88...

Well it's big and it's on floats ... so it's gotta be a fighter, right?
