@Twiddle - an alternative and an immediate what-if would be to look for the metal gun barrels in 1:72nd scale for the T-64, T-72, T-80, and T-90 tanks.  These will be about the right size in 1:35th scale to represent a smaller caliber gun tube (with an insulated barrel no less) of approximately 57-60mm.
