Folks,
Typically we set our group builds for a 2mth duration. That said, we often then extend them. Instead of this, how do you feel about making GBs a standard 3mth duration? This would mean we would typically only have 4 per year.
Please vote.

If, by extending the time period, it would encourage more people to participate in the group builds then this is a good suggestion.

Three month durations with two month start intervals ?
-
Maybe we could vary the duration, especially if there was some scratchbuilding major conversion involved. A two month build then a 4 month, then back to 2 month. Our current "everyday objects" GB would be a good one for a 4 month time. But the previous "Mig" build was appropriate at 2 months.

All good points made here. I like the variable length and overlapping starts. I know several folks here have entries in nearly every group build so the overlapping starts may cause conflicts for them but others participate occasionally so might actually allow them to participate more frequently.
-
One of the things I really love about BtS is discussions like this and how everyone seems very open-minded to change.
I agree about extending the GBs. It seems participation has been a bit down and I was wondering if the short time-frame had something to do with it. Three months seems the standard across most modeling forums so I welcome extending them.
Also, I don't see a huge problem with over-lapping GBs as most of us probably won't be interested in every GB. I think we could manage six a year even if most of them were extended. With most things, less is more, but I think with GBs sometimes more is more.

Even though we only had 10 votes, all were positive. Therefore, we will move to longer GBs. If you have any issues with this please PM me.

Missed the voting while away from the computer over the holiday weekend (for me, at least)...
But I am A-OK with extending the GB duration, even if that meant "only" 4 a year.
Now, if any of our more prodigious builders could loan me some build moxie, then maybe I could actually get something done and entered into a GB!
-
I missed this too: I’m happy with longer GBs, but as Brian suggests, overlapping them sounds like a good idea to me - I can’t be the only one who always has multiple models on the go at any one time! Also, longer time scales would make it much easier to deal with the overlaps as we would be less pressed for time.

Excellent decision!

I agree!

Oops! Missed this vote! Happened while I was mostly busy with other things ... sorry!
However, the decision is good!

Agree, good call.
Mind, for me, 3 months, even 4, is pretty much a non-starter as molasses flowing uphill in January always beats me to finishing a build...
-
This seems to be a very common ailment. Perhaps a model building summer camp to help us get one this affliction? Two weeks of no distractions. Could it be done?
-
Perhaps, something as an annual event? That way you have an entire year to get it done and if you miss the completion date, there is always next year...
Kind of like the Secret Procrastinator's Group Build...

I believe that’s what the Clear your workbench GB is for.

Yep. And even then my record is execrable... ;D

.... Then, why last GBs have been 2 months long?
-
How about 12 months long? we have a twelve-month build starting each month and finishing the same month next year.

Ah, you hope to get something finished in a GB, Paul? ??? ;)

The amount of people who voted to extend the GB's should give a clue as to why the GB's are not attracting people. And the same people seem to be the only ones joining a GB too.
For me, for the last few years has seen way to many wacky GB titles ----- just not my scene I guess ---- But for me GB's are a thing of the past I'm afraid, I can hardly build a model due to my hands not working properly --

Not sure - though happy to make longer.

I fear that would risk people losing interest. That said, am happy to entertain longer durations.
-
How about split some difference? How about a 3 month group build with a build starting every six weeks? We're not scratchbuilding the HMS Victory here. This would give us some time to clear our workbenches* and figure out what to build.
*I can't set aside an unfinished project. For me, the road to Hell is paved with unfinished models. But that's me.

One day!
The new house will help, well the two garages will anyway.

How about having three 3-month GB's but with a one month space between them. Have a break every now and then --- ;)
-
The 'In the Service of Her Majesty' is about to start, and has been set at two months.
How about extending it to three months as a trial ?
cheers,
Robin.

I like this idea Robert.

Happy to do this

I will do some re-jigging of the GB calendar...stand by.

I like what you've set up Greg, and I've made my vote.
