this was the result of intense and matured reflexion  ;D
These great words are not enough, I would rather say "genious reflexion, directing brilliant skills". :)
(I am ashamed as I had not noticed this delicious detail...) :-[

1/32 Mosquito and whale (1) Re: hybrid aircraft/animals and others
« Reply #226 on: June 25, 2015, 03:07:01 AM »
so here is the first half of the story between the 1/32 Mosquito and the whale :

this build had a few surprising difficulties : for example, we are all used to putting weights to avoid tail-sitting aircraft : here I had to put weights (two fo 50 grs each!) in the tail to avoid jaw-sitting !

that's what happes when you do whiffing : problems also turn upside down ...  :D

speaking of which, I also realised, just after gluing the ead of the whale to the fuselage of the Mosquito, that I had turned in around ... but then it appeared to be the better way, because the door and structure are more visible on the back.

ah, and the wings come from a 1/72 F100 Supersabre by PM Models (I might have added the inflight refueling pipe?  ;))

Haa haa haa haa haaa!!!! Avoid "jaw-sitting" has to be one of the funniest things I've come across today.

Thank you, I needed a good laugh.

Your model on the other hand, is indeed no laughing matter. Sometimes our hobby crosses over into the realm of art.

Your Mossie Whale is a fine example of this!

Oh, I have been frightened, reading "our hobby is realism of art!" (I hate this word realism...). But "Google translate" informed me "realm" is kingdom or world, or dream, I feel better... ;)
Congratulations Master ericr! for your animal-child :-*

don't be afraid, we are quite safe from realism here  ;)

Somua S-35 and elephant Re: hybrid aircraft/animals and others
« Reply #230 on: June 29, 2015, 05:27:13 PM »

the reciprocal Mosquito and whale is busy drying (sometimes the paints react unusually with the different plastics) so in the meantime here is something completely different (not quite Aero-space actually, sorry, but really hybrid, and the series in this thread is majoritary aircraft :P)

I crossed this Somua S-35 french tank with an elephant :I cautiously chose the Somua S-35 because its turret is much more to the front than is the case for most tanks, and it seemed appropriate here.

Dear ericr,
I have heard one hour ago that you have been chosen by the French President as new Police minister, congratulations. The speech explained you are the Genius inventor of the best tool ever for civilian peace : an elephant trunk (spraying water severely) against violent crowds that always demonstrate in our country.
So you are very rich now!
(The alarm clock rung 20 minutes ago, but this is not important)... ;)

Ar196 and Duvel beer bottle Re: hybrid aircraft/animals and others
« Reply #234 on: July 01, 2015, 03:46:10 PM »

to go back to aircraft hybrids, while the whale gently dries :

an Arado 196 with a small bottle of Duvel (my very favorite beer) :
as you can see the bottom (or front, in the case of this potential aircraft) says "small is beautiful"  ;D
and I gave it spats, for a nice 30s look

Will BdB pardon this heretical use of spats?
As far as I am concerned, I love this absurd shape  :-* , thanks for the enjoyment you give us

ADS-33?*  ;D

it would be ADS-18 : it is a mini Duvel !  ;D

the DAS-33 might developed soon : I have a spare bottle somewhere in my stash  ;)

thanks Tophe!

and, by the way, while you are there :

sometime ago you had an idea which got into my mind : the Book-Airplane :

and I liked so much that I had to try it out : using an Airfix Ar196, and a Clairefontaine notebook, cut to the shape of the wings :

it could have been featured in a Tophe-inspired group build!   ;D

Wonderful: actually built! :-* (so: I am not crazy, I will show that to the psychiatrist, as a proof!). No, officials could put dear ericr also in psychiatric asylum, sorry... :( ;)
Anyway, I love this improvement you made to turn it into "possible".
Just one point: with the extra metal cover on pages, the airflow may be happy but the pilot is unhappy: unable to read the book... (or The Book, religiously, to feel protected from The Lord above)...

I really like how the book wings give the illusion of flight on your latest, ericr! You could do this with an Il-2 Shturmovik but leave off the prop blades, exhausts, blend in the spinner with putty and let those book wings be the power.

As nice as your blue, book winged Arado is, I'm especially impressed by the yellow wonder before it!

LOVE those spats!

and now for something quite different :

the long promised mosquito and whale (with a Briev Be-6 tail) :

I particularly liked the glass nose (droop-like)

Using that Briev Be-6 tail was absolutely inspired!

Almost unsettling how well that insect-like stance suits the fuselage.

Well done, ericr!

thanks all !  :)

the fitting of the fuselage and the "beast" was actually a bit of a challenge, which I had to solve specifically by adding side cheeks to the Mosquito, in a smooth enough way to be painted with glossy colors

Uh? Was there such a "technical" reason for these pretty cheeks? I was thinking this was just a beauty extra feature... ;) :-*

a bit of technique was used for the sake of beauty  ;)

to give an idea of the challenges encountered : the shapes of sections were quite different, so I added a cheek in transparent cellophane/plastic, which I then smoothed with mastic/putty (same for the other Mosquito and whale, but in the other direction)

and now for something completely different
(I have quite a few things in stock in the pipeline actually)
not quite aircraft related but well ...

the crossing of an elephant

and an excavator

is quite naturally as follows
(with a pair of 1/18 tools) :

and the other way around, the reciprocal is just as natural :
